Anil Kumble as we all know is a great player and a great mentor. When I started playing for Karnataka, actually I played a big tournament for him. My first big tournament was MRF Trophy in Bangalore I played under him. He was my captain actually, from that day he kept telling you have the talent just keep believing in yourself, work hard and [try] to get better. He used to motivate me with those kind of words. Anil bhai and Rahul bhai, all helped me a lot. No doubt Kumble/Tenvic have been helping you, buddy - presumably that's the "skill" he is referring to.
jairamesh Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Bowling the slinger and other innovations, how have you worked on them? IPL is such a format where bowling one dot ball is very crucial. I just tried that new action to bowl a dot ball. I never had it in my mind to get a wicket with that ball. I am lucky that I got [Adam] GilchristÃÔ wicket in that ball. In T20 you should so some different things. That format is good for that, but in One-Dayers you should keep it simple. That's thing, after the one slinger he has never bowled it. I would have given him credit there, and it would have been effective, but his has brought NO innovation or variation to make-up for the distinct lack of pace at international level, he has pussy-ed out.

I would love to play Tests because you can see my Ranji Trophy performance. I love to bowl for long durations. All formats are different and I would love to play Test cricket. Dangerous times ahead for India. :nervous:

That being said, he probably has 2 more series before being chucked out for good.

All rounders like Pathan and Jadeja will come and go according to their performance but with Pacers its a different story.Forget about Fast Bowlers we can't be able to produce a single decent trundler after Venky.Vinay Kumar may end up taking wickets against some teams in Sub continent as standard of cricket is declining day by day but the fact is He Neither has pace,Height,swing or anything.Even the age is not on his side.

Fans are far too keen on what they want to see and not keen enough on what is successful. Fact is that Vinay outbowled Yadav in the recent series, despite Yadav bowling consistently at 145kph. I do not think that Vinay is a great ODI bowler or even a good one but to say he is devoid of skill is to oversimplify and be plain wrong. I think he is best suited for the Test format as he seems to struggle only when batsmen truly improvise to go after him - such as in T20 whereas if a batsman is being cautious, he can be more successful. His domestic consistency which earned him his selection, moreover, came in the 4 day rather than OD format.

You are better informed than me about this, but his List A record seems decent enough - a touch on the expensive side, but average of 25 is very good. Stark contrast to his ODI record where he averages almost 40 with economy rate over 6 an over.

He struggled even in Irani cup match though he got 4 wickets, but most of those were batsmen making mistakes, no special or worth wicket taking deliveries. Batsman can easily maneuver him especially when he is slow with not much bounce or seam. Moreover, stats don't tell you the talent one has especially at an early stage of his career. There are plenty of examples. One example is Ryan Harris. His FC record is nothing special with average over 30 but he fantastic test bowler fitness permitting..has started his career very good even in SL, he was the premier fast bowler from both sides averaging in early 20s.
