CARDIFF: World champions India dropped to the fifth position in the ICC ODI championship table after England won the five-match ODI series 3-0 on Friday. It is Mahendra Singh Dhoni's side's lowest ranking since October 2008, when it spent three months at the number-five position, to sum up a disappointing summer in England where it slipped from number-one position in the ICC Test Championship to third spot after losing all the four Tests. India had entered the series in third position on 117 ratings points and finished on 112 ratings points after they lost the second, third and fifth ODIs while the first ODI at Chester-le-Street was washed out and the fourth at Lord's ended in a tie. In fact, India had slipped to fourth position after the third ODI at The Oval where they went down by three wickets (according to Duckworth-Lewis method) and then slipped further behind after defeat in another rain-reduced match in Cardiff. In contrast, England have gained a place and have moved to fourth position. For remaining unbeaten in the series, Alastair Cook's side earned six ratings points which has left it just one point ahead of India and three behind third-ranked South Africa. However, India will have a chance to not only reclaim lost ground but potentially move into second position depending on how they perform in the five-match ODI series against England which starts at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad October 14. But India will also have an eye on the three-match ODI series between South Africa and Australia, which starts at Centurion from October 19.

I won't be surprised if we lose to England in ODIs in India. With this bowling up and a confused captain,cant see us winning the series on those flat pattas. Am sure we will see Vinay Kumar, RPS in the bowling line up. Nehra will come in for Munna.

Anyone have the courage to call this guy out? I still hold out hope for this team - after the 1983 WC, they were absolutely destroyed by the West Indians. But within 2 years, they bounced back to re-conquer the world in the 1985 B&H WCC. History shall repeat!!

Injuries won't be a big issue till 2015 when India will again play WC-IPL-tests. Biggest worry should be bowling attack.

India went out to win the WC. They had set this goal many years back. England series was irrelevant (which is a massive shame) the players nor team management made it a big deal to focus on this series and it showed.

Any top team can tour England without preparation and still win at least 1 match. This tour exposed the weak base of recent success.
