After taking two wickets each in the first two ODI in Hyderabad and New Delhi, Umesh didnÃÕ get any rewards in the Mohali match. Not only that, he split his webbing while fielding, ruling him out for 10 days. However, Umesh should be fit in time for the West Indies series and Vidarbha pacer is glad he was able to bowl the way he wanted. I did well at the start. Though I didnÃÕ pick many wickets, I was able to execute the plans I had in mind. I had a target of bowling consistently in certain areas and I was able to do that, Umesh told M AIL T ODAY . Before the match in Delhi, I had said that I would like to take the wicket of Kevin Pietersen as I thought his scalp matters the most. I was able to get him out which felt very nice, he said. When asked if any specific plans had been prepared against the Englishmen, Umesh said that almost all plans are made in the field. You do analyse the opposition players, but all the plans are made during a match while analysing how the batsman is playing that day. Results apart, what has stood out in the series is the pace both Umesh and Varun Aaron have managed to generate. Umesh, in fact, bowled at over 147 kmph ( nearly 93mph) in two matches and seems to be meeting the Indian teamÃÔ urgent requirement of a fast bowler. I didnÃÕ feel like I was bowling at 147 kmph. In the three matches, I was operating at 90- 95 per cent as I was looking to keep things tight and not try too many things. If I get another chance, and if the conditions suit me, I will definitely bowl at 150 kmph. No problem at all, the 24- year- old speedster said. Having played the first three games and watched the last two from the bench, Umesh said that the energy in the Indian team was phenomenal and cleansweep was bound to happen. The team is very young and we all backed each other throughout. This time, all the players had that hunger to win. Zid thi ke is bar jeetna hain ( We were adamant that we had to win). Every player was desperate for victory. We had lost all the series in England. Their media said a lot of things about us. Lekin apne gali me har koi sher hota hain ( Everyone is strong in his backyard). The players were waiting for them to come to India, he said. With so many emotions in play, things did get ugly out in the middle as players from both sides engaged in an all- out war of words. Their players were frustrated. They were getting angry as we started to win and afterwards, they started to fight among themselves, Umesh, who celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, opined. Like any fast bowler, Umesh too finds the winterÃÔ tour to Australia an irresistible proposition. But for now, itÃÔ just one match and series at a time. I never think too far ahead. One canÃÕ plan too much for the future. As of now, I am confident I will recover in a week or so and from there, will see.

In IPL games even varun crossed 149kmph, but in an International Game he could touch 146kmph. Moreover the fastest of the Indian Bowlers in the IPL was Ishant sharma clocking around 152kmph, i remember in a match he was quicker than steyn and regularly above 146kmph

Because even bowling at 146, you cannot see any stress on his face. It looks like bowling fast is so simple. That is the best part of his bowling, the stamina and fitness. He maintained his pace at 142K in heat in Irani cup for consecutive 10 over spells, same in ODIs matches.

Strong built does not mean you will bowl fast. Look at Pankaj Singh, won't see a strongly built guy than him. Bowling fast is all about fast twitch muscle fibers and stamina to sustain it. Pankaj is no where strong as is Mithun, but Mithun cannot generate pace as Umesh does. Sangwan is strong as an ox, if you see his latest pictures, but that does not give him the speed to match umesh,varun. My "definition" of strongly built fast bowler, is stronly built core muscles which help in generating pace, and more importantly sustaining pace. If you see Umesh he has strong shoulders and overall a fit body, that helps certainly. I feel Varun AAron is not as fit as Umesh is, looks bulkier, and i suspect is more prone to Injuries, i hope he reduces his weight a bit, also he is not as fast in the field as he should be, dhoni also said that. I really hope varun loses some weight.

Yes, Varun should get a bit leaner.

I get the feeling that in most domestic matches, the speed gun reading is about 4 to 5k lesser than international matches. Almost all bowlers become that much quicker when they play international matches. It is quite possible that Umesh was actually bowling around the 146 k mark in his first 10 over spell in the Irani Cup.

I really dont think he is using his fast twitch muscles to effect as of now. Its only his action, his wrist action which is doing the work. I think when he starts pushing himself, ( maybe in Aus ), he will get really fast.

He has not pushed himself yet to his limit. I feel he can bowler faster. IMO, Aaron too is not utilizing his ability fully because of his star-stop less rhythmical run up. If he has a bit of jump forward while delivering he could shift his momentum further rather better than what he is doing right now, but his straight delivering and no jump is allowing him to be more accurate.
