BeautifulGame Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 England got lucky because they more often not got the better of condition whether batting or bowling in the Ashes.
NareshK Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 The batsmen will find it much easier than in England because Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag are all excellent back foot players and most of them are good stroke makers who enjoy the ball coming on the bat which is usually the case in Australia. Its only when the ball swings around when the batsmen find themselves in a bit of trouble. However, they have done reasonably well in similar conditions in England 2007 and South Africa. This time around in England, they didnt prepare well and looked really out of sorts. The main worry in Australia will be the bowling. Zaheer should come back but he needs to be supported well by the others. I think it will be a tough tour for India to win but hopefully well contested.

Even if Zaheer comes back (which I doubt), he will almost certainly break down after a Test or two, as has been the case for him in quite a few Test series lately.
ganeshran Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Ishant also has ankle surgery due during that time. If he delays it to take part in the Australian tour, I hope he doesnt break down.
saneindian Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 We need to ensure our bowling plans for this tour do not revolve around Zak. Plan with the resources on hand. If Zak can get fit, well and good, if not even then we need to have the belief that we can do well there with the bowling resources we have. Ishant is a better bowler now, PK with his swing will be effective especially if pitches are bowler firndly On the 2003-04 tour our bowling attack had Agarkar, Balaji and Irfan. For 2007-08, we had RP Singh, Ishant and Sreesanth. Kumble was a massive factor though and his absence will be felt. But then the Aussie batting no longer has the same fear factor as the batting line up on those tours. So it does balance out a bit. And lastly like always, the batting line up will have to give the bowlers scores in excess of 400 for the rookie bowlers to do well. Cant have another series where we don't cross 300 in a single innings.
carnish Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I think India is going to struggle to win the series down under... however what we can really hope is for us to try and draw the series and this cant be possible without atleast one win coz the pitches in Australia will be result oriented.... Its just about the Bowlers.... OURS v DERS... the better bowling unit is gonna have the last laugh and therefore i hope we dont travel down under with VK, RP or Sree... God save us if that happens
Rightarmfast Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 They played against best team Australia had at that time. If you go by the teams a country had in past then all the series would against WI after 80s would be called lucky? Just because India played against stronger side in 2007 doesn't mean that they were lucky. Anyways, whatever team Australia, winning 3 matches by innings away is exceptional effort. There have been many weaker teams than Australia of 2010 which didn't lose this way at their home even against best sides of the world in last 15 years or so. Can we apply same logic while to say that India was lucky to win WC this year because Australia of 2007 was very strong? :dontknow: I was giving MY opinion. It doesnt matter if you or others dont agree with it. I dont have to think about other teams and the teams past. We can debate and people can try to act smart and very neutral by giving certain logic, but the fact will remain. And opinions are just opinions. Havent tried to imply anything ..
pindxb Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 India will, I am sure, put up a better performance than they did in England. Its just that Indian batsmen have this perennial problem playing the swinging ball. Pace dont matter that much for our 'stars'.

The English team themselves suffer the most and have no clue how to play against quality swing. Had this not been the case, why did they suffer against Md Amir and Asif ? Why were Waqar and Wasim so successful in England ? Ofcourse, people just overlook these obvious things and make Indians an easy target. As for the last tour of England, no team could have been worse prepared and played under as much pressure and been hounded by bad luck as India was !

And that's precisely the reason I have been saying all along that the English debacle was more because of the inability of our bowlers to get wickets.
Robelinda Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 The pitches will be flat, our bowlers don't swing the ball, even the pessimistic indian fans should expect Sachin and co to feast on our road pitches, it will be nothing like England, where bowlers at each end were pounding in with no relief. India has batted really well in the last 2 tours to Australia, i expect nothing different this time, seeing as this will be the weakest bowling attack India has played against in australia for over 20 years.
MCcricket Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 This series will depend on the wicket taking abilities of Indian pace attack, it will be exciting as Australia is gaining momentum, with the infusion of youger players. With Chappel and Coach retiring things are looking up for them.
rkt.india Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 And that's precisely the reason I have been saying all along that the English debacle was more because of the inability of our bowlers to get wickets. agree
Robelinda Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 And that's precisely the reason I have been saying all along that the English debacle was more because of the inability of our bowlers to get wickets. Yeah India racked up such HUGE scores all series with the bat.....:giggle:
MCcricket Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Yeah India racked up such HUGE scores all series with the bat.....:giggle: The English tour was a collective failure from planning to scheduling to injuries and the players themselves. If Zaheer, Ishant, Munaf, were playing our bowling attack would've been at par or better then the poms, look at the last tour when Zaheer made most players his bunnies, also thru injuries, shabby selections, batsmen , Bowlers, collective fail.
rkt.india Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 That doesn't excuse the batsman at all. No problem was our bowlers could not stop them scoring 500-600 runs on some of the most bowler friendly tracks. Teams do not score in excess of 600 runs in England. Our batsmen did not score much, but credit to their bowling and some times bad shots by batsmen and then injuries to SRT and Gambhir at the important juncture of the match. You cannot let the opposition score 500-600 on a seaming track and expect batsmen to do an impossible task against a bowling which is having a purple patch.
