Old guy Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 how many world class bowler were produced in the last 10 years when Anderson came onto the scene was he world class will he ever be world class??????????? anderson is like zaheer khan is he a world class bowler no, yes for 2-3 years he was, is he anymore??????? but u added guy in tht lost who jsut played 24 matches.. who knows maybe he will fail in future too...? with his drug problems and fixing mentality i dont think he would ve went very far in future even if he wasnt caught here
panther Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 but u added guy in tht lost who jsut played 24 matches.. who knows maybe he will fail in future too...? with his drug problems and fixing mentality i dont think he would ve went very far in future even if he wasnt caught here I also mentioned ryan harris this guy hardly plays many test but when he does play he put's in world class performances that's what i mean by world class bowlers. shane bond is another but he debuted before 2002 so i did not include him.

daryl1985 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 anderson may well be the 2nd best bowler in the world right now but that does not mean he is world class' date= he has to have another 2-3 years of good performance to make up for his poor performance at the start of his career. about the pace bit asif can also step it up to late 130s just look at his early matches against india but as he developed as a bowler he gave up pace for more control as broad is currently doing. it took asif about 5-6 test matches to develop whilst it took anderson 40 or more and he is still developing as a bowler especially on seam bowling. Disagree here. Anderson is definitely world class. When he burst on to the scene he looked very good but somewhere down the line, one of his bowling coaches (may have even been an England bowling coach) wanted him to alter his action which explains why he became ineffective for a few years. When he realised his new action was not working and reverted to his original action, he started to look good again and has been brilliant in the last 2 years. He has bowled superbly in Australia, the UAE and Sri Lanka in the last 1.5 years and has also bowled beautifully in all of England's home series'. If you have watched enough of England's test matches in that period, you will know that his bowling figures and series averages do not do justice to how well he has bowled in the last year and a half. I agree with you that Asif was a magician with the ball.

To be honest i never consistently saw enough of Asif to judge whether or not Anderson's current form is better than Asif's peak but yes Anderson is unbelievable in English conditions. It should be a fascinating series, i am interested to see how Kallis does as he has traditionally struggled in England as far as i know.
Cabinet96 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 To be fair to Pakistan, their best two pacers have just been sitting in prison. I think pace is severely overrated to be honest. India went to England, faced an attack that had no bowlers who bowled near 150kph and their much daunted batting line up struggled. They're best bowler was an 80mh medium pacer who was skilful, accurate and consistent. Suddenly there were calls for pace. Why? There's little point in bowling fast if you get no movement off the straight and bowl frequent bad balls. That's why we saw the likes of Yadav struggle in Australia, although to be fair to him he did have some good spells. Having said that, Pakistan's pace bowling is somewhat in dire straits.

Sharma is a perfect example of how pace can be overrated. To me, it always looked like he was bowling pretty well in Australia. Yet he ended up with few wickets and a terrible average. I think with bowling machines that can operate up to 99mph, pace isn't really a big issue for good test batsmen anymore. Edit: And the introduction of helmets.

Edit: And the introduction of helmets. well ishant did had lot of movement when he started specially inswing... he lost it then lost pace even when he was doing well in lords in 2nd innings there wasnt much old inswing which made him special at start hopefully for us he can get it back.. same thing actually happened with anderson too he changed action and started performing badly then like daryl said came back to his old action and now we all can see the result and actually pace is important there is a big diff between mid 120's(pk) and mid 130's (english bowlers)

However, it will be an interesting challenge for him as his form in recent years has been excellent and his record in England is one of the few places where his record is not that impressive.

Number Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 ^ I hope Kallis flops with the bat :P but performs with the ball which he usually does in England. Hope ABDV makes his mark in test matches finally by carrying SA batting line up, but I don't think he'll be good against swing.

thongale Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 vinay kumar bowls at 132-137. he is the trundling overlord. u need to get your brain aligned. asif is nowhere near the league of styen. like a mule is to Arabian horse.Vinay Kumar is **** because he's bowling pies. If a player keeps on bowling around 132k mark, accurate and move the ball a bit he will be very useful. FFS Vernon Philander hardly bowls over 140k, and operates around 135k mark. And look at his frikking average! I have no idea how Asif has come in to the discussion.:finger:

Quite often the ones who are not playing on the ground are usually regarded the best / even greatest by all and sundry.
Vilander Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 :omg: That shows Aaron's avg speed as 81 mph with slowest ball below 50 mph. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: there was a whole series where Umesh Yadavs speeds were not properly shown in Cricinfo. They would sow some arbitraty speeds like 65 kph etc. Its funny only for Umesh, i even sent a feedback.
