Here, lets discuss each day of the First test match between India & WI. Starting with today, my review or opinion about the proceedings would be that the First session completely belonged to India where as the WI improved themselves and grabbed the second session. Again India came back strongly and won the last session. Chanderpaul played exceptionally. Attacked to quiten our spinners. Our pace bowlers did struggle a bit. But again, can't blame them as there was very less assistance from the pitch. Ishant looked below par. Umesh was really impressive after Tea. Ojha easily grabs the player of the day from our side. Although credit must be given to Ashwin as well for playing a supporting role. I expect WI to get at least 325. India need to dismiss Chanderpaul else WI will need to declare and not get all out. On the whole we played well. 256/5 is a good score to read for a bowling side which is bowling on a flat deck. What do you think about today's day ?

Whatever excitement was there to watch the test after seeing this pitch in ODI against England is spoiled by a completely different pitch in test.

Well agreed to an extent. But for Test matches in India Dhoni would've wanted this kind of wicket only. Yes, a bit more assistance to the seamers would've been good. But if we make a bouncy and pacy wicket with some obvious grass in it, then WI bowlers will run through the Indian top order.

Still 4 days left, anything can happen here. This is Test Cricket, things can change in a matter of few overs. I am confident that this is going to be an exciting Test match

Our bowling was not poor given that 3 out of 4 bowlers were pretty inexperienced at this level. Yadav was able to reverse the ball after tea too. Chanders as usual batted brilliantly against us

I would have liked more bounce like it was in ODI match against England.

To control/Out Chanders, a bit of bounce required..Otherwise he's at most of his ease, especially against India.. All in all not a bad day for both the teams..Lot's of time remains..India needs to focus on getting a first innings lead and bat only once..Because Bishu could create issues if India bats second on this pitch..

Given the nature of track in India, its a decent effort from the bowlers. They are new, Ishant coming back from a long lay off and Umesh is new to test cricket + same is the case with Ojha and Ashwin. 250/5 - both teams should be happy. WI cuz their batsmen are poor against spin and they were in trouble at 70/3 and India as there was absolutely no help from the track they still managed 5 wickets and kept scoring down. I expect India to wrap them up around 300-330 tomorrow. Day 2-3 will be best for batting, we should bat out both days.

india bowled well. tried whatever they could. the pitch offered zero assistance. spinners looked dangerous at times but the turn was slow and easier to read, seamers completely ineffective. average first innings score is 377, if india get them for less than that, they should be pleased. the batting lineup will easily get a lead, and then hopefully the pitch wears out as the match goes on.

Thats why it wears down quickly, if the curators do the same for the pitches used in test match. it would become a turner from day 1 itself. Indian pitches except for the one in Mumbai have never assisted bounce much, they've always been low and slow. This pitch however looks like it'll assist spinners a lot from day 3 onwards.

Closed Kotla ticket counters drive away fans

The hype around Sachin Tendulkar’s impending 100th international century failed to attract a handsome crowd on the first day of the Test match against the West Indies, thanks to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) that kept its ticket counters closed citing it being a Sunday. Last Sunday, a record 95,000 fans hysterically embraced India's latest fascination, Formula One. This Sunday in stark contrast just 9,000 turned up at the 42,000-seater Ferozshah Kotla at a time when dwindling crowds in Test matches is bothering even the International Cricket Council (ICC). DDCA secretary general SP Bansal told IANS that the counters were kept closed since it was a holiday but hoped some 16,000 fans would turn up on Monday, when India are expected to bat. "I think 9,000 is a good number on Sunday. We expect around 16,000 fans Monday, which is also a government holiday,” said Bansal.

The counters are not closed when an IPL match is played on Sunday but for test matches, DDCA employees need a holiday!

ODI pitch had grass on it. They need not have to tinker with that pitch and it would have been perfectly fine. The test would not have been that bore on that kind of a pitch.

impressed by umesh today. Late in the day he was bowling with a lot of heart and generating good pace. He reach 147+ late in the day. This was probably the worst pitch for him to make his debut. Shiv gave a masterclass and he was also very positive. India will easily win matches when they get him out early. Ojha was again very good. His 3rd wicket was a beauty

I agree it is a bore, but tbh we can't take chance having grass. If we'd have batted first and got out to a low score, not only it would be embarrassing but might give WI unnecessary advantage.

Chanders is a very underrated batsman in my opinion. He has his own style of playing, very unorthodox and irritating, but definitely very effective especially against us :((
