The aussies acciording to sterotypes know when to retire and are selfless compared to indians. Yet this chump just clings on. Also aussies meant to be ruthless in selection and retiring players, but gone soft and thats why willing to indulge him. Average in 2011-18 Average in 210-36 Average in 2009-38 Show some balls ausseis and axe him. Looks like down to India to retire an aussie and give him a miserable farewell. Will follow in foorsteps of Waugh/Gilly and co in being retired by us! Or will the aussie show some balls and show they have not gone soft and axe him before india series

Most selfish batsman ever , knows there is no chance of him getting back to form as it was heavily dependent on 10 other members of his side , he never had in himself to score big runs playing for a weak team . Actually Australians too want to see the back of Ponting but the only lot who want Ponting to carry on are Pak fans who still dream of Ponting breaking all the records owned by GOD .

If he had retired along with the other greats (say at the end of the 2006/07 Ashes when he was in great form) people could have said that he wanted to protect his stats, he ran away, didn't want to play in a weak team, didn't bother staying in the tough times during the transition of the team etc.

Shaun Marsh is injured, Khawaja looks tentatively rubbish, Warner! :hysterical:, Cameron White is just another Mitchell Johnsen...the selectors don't have many choices to pick from, unless they start plundering their t20i and odi squads for unproven players with mediocre first class records.

Also, I have no problem with players wanting to stay. He has worked hard his entire career to play for Australia, who are we to tell him he should quit? It's the Australian selectors faults for being gutless.
kabira Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 You can't drop a captain. He has recently gave up captaincy and has played grand total of 3 or 4 tests match as player. I guess he will get one more chance against kiwis and then he might be dropped.

And the selectors are probably weary based on his 1st class record to select him for Tests. The selectors are in catch-22 situation, they have some decent Test batsmen; Katich, Voges, David Hussey and Marcus North, but age is against them. The youth policy has to be sensible, no point in throwing someone in without a proven domestic record.

putrevus Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Shaun Marsh should have been given a chance lot earlier, but he was typecast as someone who could not play tests based on his FC stats.This guy have that IT factor which not many players have and I am happy this guy has proved everyone wrong. He looks like a fighter who is willing to do anything for his team.
