master22 Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I consider Pakistan's greatest batsmen as - Inzamam, Javed Miandad, Saeed Anwar, Hanif Mohd - in that order. Out of the 4 I consider only Inzy and Miandad as world cricket's ATGs. As someone pointed out above Inzy had that Laxmanesque ability to win games with the tail. His cent against Bangladesh (despite them being a minnow) from a hopeless situation was a carbon copy of Lara's 153 (pls think twice before hurling abuses at me coz I aint comparing the bowling of Aus and Ban at all). Of course Inzy is not in the class of Sachin, and Lara. But who is? Inzy is not in the class of Punter. And he may not even be in the class of Steve Waugh, and Kumar Sangakkara. But I would choose him ahead of Rahul, and Kallis despite him not being as great as them on stats alone. So now Inzamam & Sangakkara are better than kallis & dravid:cantstop:

jusarrived Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I can put many batters of his generation above Inzi in Test yeah , its not just based on stats mind you ...like some Pakistanis claim he was nowhere near the top talents of his generation , even Anwar was better in that regard ..some serious flaws in his technique too , which is way he has poor record outside subcontinent ..& lastly , he was not half the match winner(under pressure) some Pakistanis make him out to be ..leave stats out , i can recollect only his innings against bangla which can be classified as a top class test knock ..VVS has done that more than a dozen times and against better opositions ...All said he was a very good player , a good package cos he was top class ODI player ..All time great , not !!
mishra Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 During 1992 , If I remember correctly, New Zealand were unstoppable during the seies. Mark Greatbatch was almost like JayaSurya. No one gave Pakistan a chance against New Zealand. Young Inzi played a very pivotal and superb inning in the semis. It was his inning that made me feel that Pakis are going to win this one. So definitely all time great

Think about crappy pakistani batting line up and how many times he would have come there to bat under pressure. Manu80 Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 What has he done in that "So called Bowlers era" to be called an ATG.An average of early thirties in test matches and mid 20's in ODI's in places where bowl bounced a bit and moved a bit. if in that era having that sort of a record makes you an ATG then all batsmen played during that era are ATG's.

If thats the codition then none of the batters in three consecutive world cup winner Aussie team qualify for ATG. After all they all faced mediocre bowling as well as teams apart from Individuals like Sachin and Lara
BeautifulGame Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Inzy is not an all time great and neither is Laxman.Chanderpaul is a better player than both Laxman and Inzy and i dont think he is considered an ATG by many. They are greats of their country without question but ATG is not something that should be brandished easily imo.
