Who Is the Better ODI Opener - Sourav or Saeed?

It's lucky for him that he's not playing these days as with the rule change of batsmen not getting substitute runners he would have struggled to average 30.

Why is that? If you retire hurt, it does not count as a dismissal and boosts the average?

Ganguly as a player, leader, scored when it mattered, Anwar needed good conditions to score runs,also only played well mostly in the subcontinent, both were fantastic though.

Don't think he would be able to average more than 30s this way and I am being charitable. I mean if you replace all his 100s and 194* where he got a runner as soon as he got into 40s and replace those knocks by unbeaten 40 he would be left with an average barely touching 30.

Gilly to me is the best of all openers in ODI's for his sheer ability to change the course of a game with in a span of few overs on the big stage. In fact he to me is the No.2 on the list after Viv to be the most unique of One Day batsman that can send chills down the spine of the opponents just with their presense at the crease.

Not sure about others but Anwar sure would. I don't recall any of his long innings where he didn't call for a substitute runner.

But.. but.... Saeed Anwar is the mosht tailunted batshman of aal time. Pakistan has never produced a a batsman that has scored almost in every country. Batsman has to apply himself and know how to progress in his innings. Only men with sane mind can do that.

Its pakistanis themselves who are being insensitive by bringing his personal life in cricket.... Compare the player with his cricketing career. SA allways owned him when it came to test cricket too Averages ---England 38.92 SA 23.2 WI 19 over all average 45... slightly better than 42 (Not significant enuff) But when you consider the number of games 113... Then That is definitely more than double to 55

Didn't that happen at the end of 2001? By then Anwar was on a decline and was also suffering from very poor fitness due to a dodgy knee . IIRC, after the 2003 WC he was dropped by your selection committee led by Sohail and then after being ignored for a few more series, announced his retirement.
