Asim Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has rocketed to the top of the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers following an impressive series performance against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates. Ajmal took 11 wickets at an average of just 16.27 and an economy-rate of less than 4.00 to help his side to a 4-1 series win. That effort won him five places on the latest rankings and puts him at the top, just ahead of two other spinner, Daniel Vettori of New Zealand and England's Graeme Swann. In what has proven to be a very successful series for members of the Pakistan attack, two other bowlers - Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez - have shot into the top 10 with Afridi now occupying seventh position and Hafeez one place further back. And it's not just the Pakistan bowlers who are making moves up the rankings. With an average of 53.66 for the series, Umar Akmal has gained six places on the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen and now sits in 11th spot. There is no change, however, in the top 10 of the batting chart with South Africa's Hashim Amla still leading the way followed by his team-mate AB de Villiers in second.
Asim Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 now everybody start giving your expert opinions about him as a "blatant chukar" :giggle:
Tendya Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Not sure abt his action, but he deserves his no.1 spot given the dearth of good ODI bowlers. I would rate him amongst the 3 best spinners in the world along with Vettori who is by far the better ODI spinner and Swann who is the better test spinner.
Trichromatic Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Where is best spinner Greame "Murli" Swann?
Asim Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 By the way Pakistani spin trio Ajmal, Hafeez and Afridi all 3 in Top 10... A shift; Pakistani spinners have started to do better than famous Pakistan Fast Bowlers :cantstop: but the fact remains same: we still are producing Top bowlers :winky:
daryl1985 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Pakistan have an outstanding spin attack in ODI's and T20's. Ajmal is extremely hard to pick, Afrdi has been superb recently and Mohammad Hafeez is so economical.
Viki_J Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Sharon Olds, the famous American poet, once said: “I am a late bloomer, but anyone who blooms at all ever, is very lucky.” A crafty off-spinner, who is not afraid to give the ball air and has a very dangerous ‘doosra’ is making headlines in the World of cricket.:two_thumbs_up: cheers to u Ajmal
phaedrus Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 he is very good. like seeing him bowl. well done to him
ganeshran Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Congrats Ajmal, well done. And yes he is still a chucker
J P K Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 is he the only bowler to bowl doosra these days ?
Yoda-esque Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 This is the reason Murali should have been banned...Ajmal is a chucker..no question about it
kubrickian Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I just checked his profile on Cricinfo and it says he is 34 years old ? What has he been doing all these years ? I thought he was a young talent and would play for Pakistan for many years. His action also looks really suspect IMO.
Asim Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Kaneria did extremely well in domestic cricket this year but I think he is still not "clear" for international otherwise Ajmal+Kaneria can make a very good Test combination of spin bowling.

May be he was not very effective even in first class till he not started to bowl doosra...
Number Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Well deserved.you can't pick his doosra , he looks unplayable sometimes against RHs. I want a series against Pakistan so that Sehwag gives a demo how to play him :--D
