What about prior to that ? He is certainly a better keeper than what you rate him.
I thought you were comparing him to prior for a second, was ready to take my shoe off :giggle: I agree with some people above. He may not be a good test batsmen but he is a perfect package as captain/wktkeeper/no7 bat. I think the problem is not that he does well on flat tracks and struggles on seaming tracks, it is more mental. He is a very smart player and makes use of his ability but I feel he sometimes doesn't know how to bat in tests when there are more balls to play. He should nurdle like he does early on in ODI's and then play big shots. He struggles when he tries to play defensively as in two minds whether to leave or block. He really should nurdle, he is very good at finding gaps in ODI in his unique batting style. The test field shouldn't inhibit him from this...

Tendulkar trying to slog Pakistan's best bowler in the match was not retarded' date=' but the keeper trying to get a few quick runs against the new ball was retarded?:hysterical:[/quote'] Do u even know the meaning of bottling or chocking? Sachin was slogging Saqulain because he cant play any longer to injury. Why did Mongia play that pull shot when it wasnt necessary at that time? The ball wasnt reversing and coming on to the bat ,A well set partnership is progressing , he is poor puller all through his career , he didnt even attempt that shot before in that innings and he was well set too.Yet he played a needless shot when there is no necessity.

So' date=' why didn't Goddy "stick around" and went for a slog against the best bowler of the day? Desperate Goddy fans expecting more out of Joshi and Mongia than Goddy?[/quote'] I guess it was Tendulkar's fault for not getting all the runs by himself. After all how can you expect others to get even 16? Especially since Mongia had already played the "greatest knock ever"

Outy if you are serious about taking Mongia over Dhoni then it can only be due to personal dislike for Dhoni. I'm sure even Mongia's wife will chose Dhoni as a wk-batsman over Mongia in her XI. on the topic , I am annoyed with his test match batting these days , he is struggling with it. more over its temperamental thing hopefully a break from ODIs will sort it out.

Tut tut tut... you don't know how great Mongia was in "crunch" situations :nono:

Since you are going on and on about the "pull" shot, Mongia did not play the pull shot - you are saying it only because you never watched the match and heard Lele talking some crap. He went for a hit over mid on and was caught at mid off. Just before that, he had started attacking and hit a six off Saqlain off which the entire crowd went nuts.

I am pretty sure it was a pull shot he edged to mid off rather than a straight drive. Also that doesnt change the fact he played a unnecessary shot when absolutely no need for that and we were cruising. It was he who bottled out not Sachin who had only one option of slogging due to injury

From my memory he was going for a swipe to mid on/mid wicket and got a leading edge to mid off. But anyhow the point is that he had cracked a six in the previous over off Saqlain by hitting him over mid wicket and the entire Chenna crowd including you were in raptures at that point. But 12 years later you are choosing to criticize the wicketkeeper rather than the main batsmen!

Who was more capable of scoring the additional 16 runs - Joshi' date=' Mongia, or Tendulkar? I am pretty sure Mongia fixed it. :hysterical:[/quote'] So, in last year's match against Ozzies - which was better knock.. Ishant's 31 or Laxman's 73.

I don't blame Tendulkar, Mongia, Joshi, or the tail for the Chennai loss but I blame our top order failure. Try to understand the context of my post - some guy was blaming Mongia and Joshi for the loss and exonerating Tendulkar.

But proffesor when I pointed out he was a mediocre test match player and was more interested in IPL etc as he rested from SL test series to be ready for IPL. You jumped to his defence and slaughtered me for questionong him. Now it seems you have gone full circle and totally agree with me and more:cantstop:

Of course, I did not bother to check the context. :) But I got my response - whatever little difference is there between Lax_73 and srt_136 was beyond their control and intentions.

Dhoni's glovework is average? You should really give up' date=' dsr. Wait till you see the lions Karthik and Parthiv in action - oh wait been there done that. Their glovework is club standard if Dhoni is average.[/quote'] These posts in the thread http://indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=112922&highlight=dhoni+test From an ardent MSD fan, Outty has turned a harsh critic, all because of the emergence of Saha :P. The good thing is his prophecy of MSD having a batting avg of 35-40 has come good.:--D

Abhi to Ratra' date=' Dahiya, Kirmani, Engineer, Karthik etc. bhi aane waale hain to prove how cr@p Dhoni is and how great our wks were before Dhoni :giggle:[/quote'] Manav Prasad?

How can u call Dhoni a mediocre 'keeper? His stumpings are super-awesome where he does not waste any time to dislodge the bails, and his catching is good too. His keeping was great in yesterday's morning session too.

Dhoni's real test will be to bat and score runs in Austrlia in test's, he hasn't been successfull in test's away from home, I will be pleasantly surprised if he score much , maybe one knock where he hits out and scores a bit.
