If he's fit, then his Ranji performance should have been monitored and he should have been drafted. also, looking at Kohli's inning yesterday, I am still not convinced of his prowess as a test match player.[/quote'] true i like pujara more way he batted in south africa.. only dale steyn's best ball of series was able to get him out swinging from leg stump! but he wasnt fit you cant just bring him in after injury kohli will do well in australia he did well in souh africa one days (on bad wickets) he only struggled in west indies tests he will get better its not like he cant play short ball we all know he is much much more spolid then raina,yuvraj,rohit rahane imo looks better but im a sucker for solid batsmen and fast bowlers so :cantstop:

No, Mukund is already given test cap and he has impressed in the limited opportunities he has got! He has also been on terrific domestic form , it is unfair to drop him after one series where he didn't do too bad! Rahane was good in ODI's , but it is too risky to give a test cap straightaway in Australia , if one of the opener gets injured. Mukund would've been a safer choice.

You can't choose a player as reserve opener who doesn't even open in domestic matches! Rahane comes as one or two down for Mumbai. It'll be too risky to ask him open in a test. Mukund should have been the reserve opener. And if Zak could be chosen on provisional basis, why not Pujara too? He too will be proving his fitness in the coming Ranji match on 29th.

He too will be proving his fitness in the coming Ranji match on 29th. I disagree with you Chandan, Zak is a legend and important for our success in Australia. so selectors have taken a risk. But it is not the case with Pujara and his replacement Kohli not doing bad along with Rohit , so selectors didn't have to take an extra risk. They'll be embarrassed if Pujara fails to prove his fitness in Ranji and he should be replaced with someone else in the last moment.

Should not be a major issue if he is asked to open during the series. Agree. They should have picked 5 bowlers plus Zak. I still have doubts over Zak unless he bowls 30-40 overs in FC games in Ranji.

Yeah thats correct but I do not have a problem with either of them being picked. TBH Rahane should have gone to WI ahead of Mukund, but like then, a talented youngster got a chance and this time another one who has done well in Australia is getting a chance. A bit of consistency would have been nice, but its ok either ways. Both are young and have plenty of cricket ahead of them.
