vamos_rafa Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Azhar. Dravid is not great apart from slips. Azza was an excellent fielder everywhere. He could hit direct hits and his throwing arm was very good as well. Also a very fast runner. And at slips, he was at par with Dravid.
Alchemist Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 From what I have seen, it has to be Robin Singh, Ajay Jadeja or Yuvraj Singh.
Raghav_12 Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Azhar was very good for his time, particularly with ground fielding. But I think some of today's fielders like Raina, Kohli are much better than Azhar but don't get that much recognition because of relatively higher standards of fielding these days. Dravid is nowhere in contention.

vvvslaxman Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Solkar is an excellent fielder in close in cordon. If you ask me who is the best overall anywhere on the ground i have to say Kapil dev. Some of his stops on the follow through were spectacular.
Trichromatic Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Akash Chopra as close in fielder. He once caught good sweep shot by McMillan.
ganeshran Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Yuvraj in his prime, Kaif was a candidate. Pravin Amre was said to be able to hit the stumps from anywhere on the ground. In the younger generation, Raina and Kohli are impressive
Raghav_12 Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Solkar is an excellent fielder in close in cordon. Yeah, I too read about Eknath Solkar many times and few articles conveyed that he used to be in team for his fielding skills only. If that is true than I think he would be the best fielder India ever had.
Number Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Anyone remembers Noel David ? He played 4 ODIs for India. He was a fielding all-rounder. :P
nikred Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Yeah' date=' I too read about Eknath Solkar many times and few articles conveyed that he used to be in team for his fielding skills only. If that is true than I think he would be the best fielder India ever had.[/quote'] My dad claims most of the present day Indian fielders can't hold a candle to Solkar. He claims he is the best India ever had.
Sidhoni Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 All I know abt Solkar is that he was one of the best close-in fielders and his catching was brilliant. http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/34085.html
yoda Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 From the ones I've seen: Kapil, Azhar, Kaif. If you include Keepers, Kirmani. Heard about Solkar, never seen him play. Yuvraj was good till he got fat. Of the young guns, Raina is a standout.
ganeshran Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Anyone remembers Noel David ? He played 4 ODIs for India. He was a fielding all-rounder. :P I remember he was compared to Jonty during his debut series
vamos_rafa Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 I remember he was compared to Jonty during his debut series How about Jonty singh? :--D
