I do know that Kapil's batting average was better than Tendulkar's - overall, home, and away. If Kapil had not even picked up a cricket ball in these 16 tests he still would have outperformed bhagwaan. Yeah an away bowling average of 35 is not too flash, but couple that with a home bowling average of 23 and an overall batting average of 40 and it's not even the same league of embarrassment that Tendulkar is turning out to be.

Dismissing notions that Tendulkar was out of form despite a modest average of 32 in seven international matches this Australian summer, Shastri urged the batsman to continue attacking the bowlers. "If he just keeps the tempo going and forgets about the milestone, just treat the bowling on merit, he'll be fine," Shastri was quoted as saying by the 'Sydney Morning Herald'. Shastri detected a change in the batsman's tactics in the Melbourne and Sydney Tests, when he passed 50 with ease only to tighten up because of the situation. "I believe at times he's come close to a milestone ... he goes into a shell and plays differently as opposed to when he starts an innings. If he carries on in that fashion and maintains the tempo and forgets about the hundred, it will come," Shastri said. It's clear to anyone watching his time is up as you don't see comebacks at the age of 40+. He may score a few more at home but that would be pointless. He should go now and let a youngster like Tiwary/Rahane/anyone play instead. Watching him struggle against Aussies has been embarrassing. He may manage to score some against SL but against quality bowling (like Aussies) his days are over.

Having said that, I expect the master to answer his critics and prove them wrong for the nth time yet again.

SRT had a slump in mid 2000s but most of the people backed him as he still had a few years left. But at 39, and with the next overseas tour 2 years away, do you think he should continue playing? As I said in my previous post, he can and most probably will score runs in India but what would be the point of that when most of our batsmen can do so. We blanked Eng 5-0 at home in odis when we literally had a A team other than Dhoni few months back. I would prefer to see a youngster get chances so that he's relatively ready when we tour in 2 years' time rather than SRT playing the next 2 years at home and then calling it a day leaving us high and dry on an away tour.

Sorry to say but Sachin fans tend to behave like Pakistanis these days. Just as some Pakistani tend to take a stab at Indian democracy and secularism non-stop and when confronted would shive Gujarat in our face, similarly defending SRT means having a go at Kapil. As if but for Guajarat the same Pakistanis would be in love with India's pluralism, right???? So Kapil effed up. Does that mean Sachin should too? OR Had Kapil NOT effed up, would Sachin still be allowed to eff up? Get real, you are using Kapil as excuse, not a reason.:winky:

The Realist Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 The brutal truth is Tendulkar is nearing the end. Currently he is like a striker who cannot score, the Fernando Torres of world cricket. There is only so long you can carry a passenger in a team game, sooner or late a hard decision will have to be made, and at the current rate of performance that day is not far away.
