Talwar Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Its sad but unfortunately its true, new talents like Ashwin, varun, umesh got the limelight only because of IPL. We were searching for bowling talents for a long time and without IPL i dont think we would have seen these new bowlers in indian team. I am still hoping for many more quality bowlers like these folks emerge and rule the roost.:two_thumbs_up:
Ultimate_Game Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Don't think Umesh and Aaron have done anything of note in IPL.
Talwar Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 ^^^What are u talking abt? umesh and varun got the limelight because of ipl. Both of them were hyped because of their speed. Even Rahul sharma got a place in indian team because of ipl.
bajrang Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 i would rather thank Duncan Fletcher and eric simmons. eric is also bowling coach of delhi daredevil where both varun umesh bowls. he saw them and showed confidence. i give hiim full credit .
Manny_Pacquiao Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 LOL, these guys barely did anyting in the IPL. they made it into the side primarily because of their excellent domestic records. notice how both played in the irani trophy this year? having a coach who has a hard-on for quicker bowlers also helps speed up the selection procss. rahul sharma is the only exception, but he is there because all the other indian leg spinners are crap. gets in the side by default
pensionplan Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Agree. Very valid observation. IPL indeed is a platform for unknown India players to come into the lime light. Naman Ojha is one such player that comes to mind on top of others already mentioned.
JeffThommo_fan Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 You are absolutely right. Umesh and Aaron are the find of the IPL. Wonder, how long it'd have taken for them to come into limelight thru domestic circuit. Even Abu Nechim came thru IPL. The best and the worst part of IPL or T20 cricket is, that, bowlers have to bowl only 4 overs so bowlers bowl their heart out in those 4 overs but 4 overs are not sufficient enough to judge any player
Pagalpanti Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 LOL, these guys barely did anyting in the IPL. they made it into the side primarily because of their excellent domestic records. notice how both played in the irani trophy this year? having a coach who has a hard-on for quicker bowlers also helps speed up the selection procss. rahul sharma is the only exception, but he is there because all the other indian leg spinners are crap. gets in the side by default What he means is they got into limelight only after they played IPL. Which is sad really, Yadav has a very good FC record but don't think Selectors even follow FC at all, they probably just see the stat sheet at end of the season and players like Vinay Koomar get picked as a result.
vvvslaxman Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Aaron got the attention because of his 153.1 kph video in domestic match not IPL. Valthaty also got attention in IPL. Let us not get carried away.
bulbul Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Aaron got the attention because of his 153.1 kph video in domestic match not IPL. Valthaty also got attention in IPL. Let us not get carried away. you are correct.. but what IPL done was allowing lesser talented guys to get a good/great earning opportunitis...otherwise these guys never should have seen these amount of money..

They showed their talent and potential through IPL. Without that, we would have still been persisting with old failures.
Old guy Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 ipl might help abu nechim.. who for some reason is ignored by selectors
bajrang Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 ipl might help abu nechim.. who for some reason is ignored by selectors if he does well for Mumbai Indian next season he will surely be in, he has already contributed in CL20 winning squad.

Stuge Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 NAAAAAAAAAAHiiiiiiiiiiiiiii !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannont hear this :((
BeautifulGame Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Agree. The limelight in IPL means selectors cant ignore a player based on their personal bias and preferences. In the years gone by selectors always ignored players who are from weaker teams but nowadays with IPL and if a player also has FC record like Umesh had it is impossible to ignore even if they are form plate teams.
vvvslaxman Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 you are correct.. but what IPL done was allowing lesser talented guys to get a good/great earning opportunitis...otherwise these guys never should have seen these amount of money.. Bur batting skill is regressing. Temperamentally new breed of players are midgets. Tecnically also poor. M Vijay used to be a decent batsman. After he started cowlashing has become rather poor. Bowlers might benefit. Batsmen... i have my doubts. We might cut a sorry figure if we pick batsme based on IPL performances. Thankfully they haven't done that yet. Otherwise Uthappa, Yusuf Patha, Saurab Thiwary would be playing tests.
