It's Dec 26th and I switch on my TV tingling with excitement and anticipation at the prospect of watching India take on Australia on the boxing day. Suddenly there's a ticker on the news "Breaking News! Zaheer injured. Not to play in the Test and probably out of the series". Then the screen cuts to a smiling Mithun and a beaming Vinay Kumar in the middle getting their India caps from SRT, with Vinay giving an impromptu interview how much he is looking forward to lead the Indian pace attack against Aus. And then I switch off my TV set and go to bed.

The two young pace sensations (Mithun and Vinay) from India lead the team out. Dhoni hands the new ball to Vinay and the match is under way. There's a loud cheer as Vinay runs in with a few banners fluttering stating "Give it to Aussies" "Let Aussies know what chin music is" "Blow away Aussies" and my favorite "Watch out Aussies! Vinay and Mithun on the prowl". Vinay steams in and bowls with a great action. Hughes plays at the ball but is beaten for pace. Commies are all impressed and chatter excitedly about the new pacer and similarities between his run-up and Michael Holding's. Taylor squeals "Oh what a ball! Slower ball first up and does Hughes in. What confidence from the young man to bowl the slower one first up and fox the batsman" The speed gun clocks the delivery at 118 kph :hehe: As for Mithun, he goes on to beat batsmen with both pace and bounce with the ball hardly touching 120kph with hardly any pace for it to bounce :hysterical:

Zaheer keen to 'make the difference' in Australia G VISWANATH The Hindu I am very happy with the way things are going: Zaheer Khan Zaheer Khan is keen and eager to play a full series in Australia. I want to be the factor which can make the difference. As there are so many expectations from me, I have done enough to get onto that flight, and the next step is to fulfil all the expectations, said the Mumbai left arm seamer at the conclusion of the Ranji Trophy match at Khanderi village here on Friday.. India's leading seam bowler, Zaheer wants to make up for lost opportunities, mainly because of the injuries he suffered eight years ago in the 2003-04 series and once again in the 2007-08 series. He has attained some level of match fitness before he sets foot in Australia a few days from now. He sent down 22 overs against Orissa and 21 against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy matches, and on surfaces that were far from encouraging to the seam bowlers. He also took seven wickets, majority of them in an emphatic manner, either bowled are making the batsmen nick to the `keeper and the slip cordon. In the last five years, he's been a matured bowler, trying to manipulate the seam rather than bending his back and generating pace. It was in this period that he's taken 144 wickets in 35 Tests after a stint with Worcestershire. After the match against Orissa last week, the 33-year-old seamer said he was looking to get his rhythm back and to his satisfaction. After this match I feel much better. I thought that the more I bowl, the better I would get in the rhythm count. I have bowled 43 overs in two matches. I am very happy with the way things are going. The most important thing was to spend time on the field and not by choice, we (Mumbai) spent 170 overs in the first innings here against Saurashtra. It was very good in a way for me in order to get the lethargy out. That's what Test match cricket is also about. I am very happy and looking forward to the tour of Australia. Rhythm is all about coordination of action. Effort in terms of the physical running in is fine with me. But I wanted to bowl more to get that coordination right in terms of bowling, said Zaheer. A dozen years of international cricket has taken heavy toll on the left arm fast medium bowler. Fortunately he recovered from serious injuries to the landing foot and bowling hand shoulder and several other niggling ailments of the body and gone on to play 79 Tests (15837 balls, 273 wickets at 31.78) and 191 one-day internationals (9617 balls, 273 wickets at 28.84). More significantly, India has won 44.30 per cent of the Test matches (35 wins, 19 losses and 25 drawn matches) since he made his debut against Bangladesh at Dhaka in November 2011 when he shared the new ball with Javagal Srinath. After the retirement of Srinath, the Mumbai left arm paceman has been India's spearhead. He missed 40 Test matches since his debut and India won only 35 percent of the matches (14 wins, 9 losses and 17 matches drawn). When asked if 43 overs was enough to prove his fitness and rhythm he said: I have done everything possible in discussion with the physios. We chalked out this plan. I have been achieving my milestones eight to ten days ahead of schedule. On the whole, it's been very positive. When I am boarding the flight (to Australia) there will be no doubts in my mind whether I will be able to bowl 20 overs, or I am going to come back. I am just thinking from a cricketing point of view and not anything else. What's going to happen, will happen. I want to go ahead with a clear mind. The past is past. What I can look for is the future. This tour is very important. I have done everything to be on the field as long as possible. I want to make that important difference to the team and win matches. It's a team game and team effort. Everyone has to play his role and I am glad I have been able to play my role better and I hope to continue with that on this tour (to Australia) as well. Zaheer said that he did not set a time frame for returning to the Indian team: When I decided to go for this surgery (ankle), my plan was to do the right thing; I did not set any target. I knew that this tour was important for India and I was keen to play that part to be able to perform and win matches. I was just going by the way my body was recovering. I knew that the first class season would start (before the tour of Australia) and that I would be able to play some matches. On India's chances in the Test series he said: ``There will be bounce on offer in Australia. I think our team will have the edge because our batsmen are not travelling to Australia for the first time. For some of them it's their third or fourth tour. This particular aspect is going to work in our favour. The batsmen know what they are going to get into exactly. Even the bowlers have to hit the right length going as early as possible because of the extra bounce. We have to make the most of the practice matches. He's also looking to mentor the young seam attack. ``I am really looking forward to join the team in Australia, play my part, work with the youngsters and guide them in whichever way possible. Unfortunately Varun Aaron is out of the series. I have seen them bowl at 140 plus which is a great sign. They must enjoy their bowling as it's the early part of their international career. This should work in our favour. We have an experienced bowler in Ishant Sharma and a young bowler in Umesh Yadav who is hostile in his approach."

It'll be a one-sided affair otherwise :winky: lol well i think he wont pick many wickets its gonna be either ishant or yadav who wil do the most of the job he is gonna be there and guide them and bowl good short spells when going is tough or crucial example like south african series .. btw on these pitches against australia i think we can do well w/o zaheer he is not gonna play 4 tests any way lmfao
