Let's face it, the selectors have tried several new young pacers. Some like Yadav and Aaron have clicked and have been immediately included in the team for the long run. Others like VK and Mithun have been tried, have been useless and hence were not initially included. Now when we keep having injuries with Sree not being available, PK injured, the selectors have been left with limited choices. I believe Munaf is injured as well. 1. Either bring back one of the discards from before - RPS, Nehra, Irfan 2. Include the recently tried but kinda useless VK and Mithun 3. Bring in untested/untried players - Nechim, ... I personally would have preferred someone from #1, but they did that in Eng and RPS turned out to be useless. So, essentially, our hope is that we don't have to play Mithun or VK and that at least 2 out of Zak, Ishant, Yadav, Aaron is fit.

SO what if he hasn't played many Ranji/first class games, he is certified by Wasim Akram which is more than enough to get him to flight for Australia..So what if you guys haven't seen him bowl, he is talented enough to bowl 145k+ thunderbolts in Boxing day test and get Ricky ponting and Michael clarke in trouble straight away...! Not everyday some one gets certified by Wasim Akram, Cheeka is useless bugger..We should make Wasim akram as selector...I am praying everyday for Zak to get injured along with OP

saneindian Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Vinay Kumar will be a good bowler for the test matches especially as a 3rd seamer.. Can bowl a lot of overs with good control. He did outbowl Yadav and Varun in the ept of the flat pattas at AB field in the EPT. His problem in ODIs has been the death overs where he goes for a lot of runs. In tests, he can set a packed off side field and bowl tighter lines providing MSD the option of attacking from the other end. So in a way VK in the squad isn't as bad.

But if selectors had any sense they would fast track him just like they did with Rahul Sharma. The problem with East Zone is that their selector is basically a South Indian (Raja Venkat alias C.R.Venkataraman) who is more concerned about pleasing Srinivasan and Srikant than promote cricket in the East. (Before anyone gets ballistic, I am a Southie myself). Shami Ahmed plays for Bengal and is in the Kolkatta Knight Riders team. He too is quick. Any of these guys are anyday a better choice than Mithun. I for one feel that it is more important for Team India to do well and though I do not agree with selections of Mithun and Vinay Kumar but now that is a fait-accompli, hope these guys work with Eric Simmons and improve their bowling and do well. And more than anything else I really hope that Zaheer lasts for 4 tests. For ODIs, we can manage without him.
