Boxing Day test Review thread

There are been several points where we have given the advantage to Aussies. Here are some that I clearly noticed: 1. Middle and late order batting: Considering that we have a far better batting unit on paper, the middle order especially disappointed completed. We gave away all the wickets from 214/2 whereas Aussie tailenders also gave very good fight to the Indian bowlers. This is the single biggest reason we have landed in some mess though hopefully we might fight back soon. If we had got even 50-100 runs lead or even evened out in our first innings instead of gifting the wickets today then we would have been in a very strong position instead of being on the backfoot. 2. Putting the pressure: We released the pressure after taking 6 wickets and gave away easy runs with our field positions and somewhat bowling. On the other hand, Aussies choked our middle order as soon as Sachin departed. I was especially disappointed with Dhoni gifting singles to Haddin every time with his field placement just to bring Siddle on strike which proved to be a massive mistake. Negative ploy by Dhoni where we missed out whereas Aussies tightened up the screws as soon as they saw a minor crack in the top order. 3. Running between the wickets: This is one thing I noticed and not sure if anybody else noticed. We have been terrible in running between the wickets compared to Aussies. Aussies are converting singles to twos and twos to threes whereas we did not take even easy 3s when we had opportunity yesterday. We were converting threes into twos which was sad. 4. Fielding: Aussies have been an overall better fielding side even with their almost new team whereas we have been quite sloppy. There were several misfieldings throughout the match till now. 5. Overall attitude: We are taking a bit "too much for granted" in the match. When we take a few wickets we suddenly change our body language and look too relaxed which gives them the time. Similarly, once we start scoring we are taking things for granted and not giving our best. Aussies are giving their 100% even with their fresh team whereas we are taking things a bit too much for granted. Please feel free to add your points where we gave advantage to the Aussies. Quite disappointed to be honest as we have given massive advantage to Aussies when we were quite strong in the match ourselves.

Hussey's knock. The cat with more than nine lives. Man! I have lost count of how many times his position is questioned and he comes with a gem. He definitely has immense strength of character after getting a rough one in the first innings, he has played a blinder in tough conditions to put Australia in command. :hatsoff: Here is hoping that he gets out first ball tomorrow.:winky:

Very good knock under pressure. In fact, most of the oldies have done well under these testing conditions and pressure. For India it was Tendulkar, Dravid and Viru (not exactly young), for Australia it was Ponting and Hussey. Experience far outweighs talent under such circumstances.

There are some points where they gave advantage to us... At the end everything evens out eventually.. This is a series between 2 good sides and decided mainly by who make less mistakes rathen than who plays great cricket

I am actually very happy to see India do this well on the first match of a test series outside the subcontinent. It's not the norm. We usually start with all sorts of blunders.

Goes to show the importance of preparing well for a tour. Our complacency resulted in 4-0 in England, we are a much better team than that.

well questioning his place in the side was questionable in itself. He is their highest run scorer this year...he was MOS in Lanka, their best batter in Ashes, just 4 failures and ppl started to question him. Idiots...

I guess there is a lot of complacency in our batting... late order collapses have become more regular than they were in the 90s and this when we have the best batting lineup in the world... its really unacceptable

The collapse from 214/2 to 282 all out is the biggest reason. The middle and late order batting was also poor in England and continuing here. There Dravid scored some runs but there was nobody to support him. Laxman, Dhoni, Kohli or Raina and the tail just getting blown away time and again in foreign conditions. They cant afford to fail one more time in the 2nd innings.

After the beating we got in England , I can't even say our normal line that "India will bounce back". :nervous:

The biggest turning point of the match was Sachin's dismissal in the first innings , I was dreaming about a lead of atleast 200 runs at that point and suddenly Sachin got dismissed , play was called off and India were suddenly 8 wickets down the next morning . That was such a rare chance to strengthen your hold on the match but the usual suspects like Laxman , Dhoni gave it away instead of cashing on the opportunity .
