He's 37 years old. The guy's a liability in the field. We don't play a test match for another 7 months and that too in the subcontinent. Does he still play in the IPL? Don't know how long his back will last to be honest.

Need to get Sharma in ASAP. Who cares if he fails this series? He needs the experience of playing in Australia. So the next time he comes, he doesn't look clueless. Need to play him now instead of flat tracks in Lanka.

totally agree with this, it is investing in the future which is crucial, we know Sharma has talent scoring hundred on flat decks in SL will give him false confidence and isnt healthy. He needs to come in against this Aussie team in Australia, I believe he has the technique and drive to make runs against them but as you say even if he did fail he has the experience in the memory bank to learn from it improve and put it right, the talent is there but as Geoff Boycott says "you can't make runs from the pavilion"

the fielding point to be fair was not one of my main considerations, it just happened to be at the top.

+1 It has to be a phasing out process, yes we need to get youngsters in but just getting rid of all our legends in one go we are asking for trouble, we will get hammered left right and centre and I know losing intitally is a learning process but if the whole team is young and only used to losing that can become toxic and take a generation to get out of. We need our top youngester to have played some cricket with the greats to that they are used to playing and more importantly having some sucesss in the test arena. Look at what happened to the Windies after their dominance they never really recovered because they never had a vision for the future! Combining a vision for the future with a gradual phasing out of the current greats in the twilight of their career is the recipe for future success.

Honestly the replacements coming in should play as much county cricket as possible. Its impossible for them to make any mark in pacer friendly conditions having been brought up on slow, low tracks in India. But BCCI is somehow reluctant to send these players to play in county cricket. How these new guys will adapt to playing when the ball swings and seams around is beyond me. Its laughable to think any batsmen replacing Sachin, Dravid or Laxman will immediately make any kind of impact in those conditions. We can expect performances similar to the 90s at least as far as playing in SA, Aus and Eng is concerned for a while after the seniors retire. That's why this series is all the more important for India to win because its their last best chance to win in Australia for some time to come.

Ok we will grind DLT into the dust. make them play every test match, they will play this series, all 3 will play against SL and ENG next year. Newbies will only get a chance at no.6 where most of the time they will be coming in and be expected to score quickly to set a declaration or bat with the tail and eek out some extra runs. Then we will be back here this time next year saying the same old BS. Can't you smell the rotten stench of the staleness that is surrounding this Indian test team? It stinks but seems you have the same nose guard as the selectors.

Anyone who under-estimates VVS are setting themselves up for a massive egg-on-face. I am willing to bet my house that the guy will deliver this tour.

Especially given the fact that he takes his time to adjust to conditions. He scored single digits in both innings in the 1st test in SA as well before the Durban test.
