Every good thing has to come to an end. Laxman' date=' Dravid and Tendulkar have to be phased out of the Indian team within this year. India has no choice but to start getting fresh blood and look at the future.[/quote'] The man from your city knows better than anyone when he should call it quits..he won't continue playing an extra day if he feels enthusiam for the game is draining.

Its doesnt matter whether they have enthusiasm or not.Its about building for the future. Can we really see Sachin or Dravid or Laxman in the team in 3 years time when we next play our tour outside sub continent? The truth is no. So its important to blood youngsters in the youngsters in the next 2 years when we play only in the sub continent. So that they gain confidence in test cricket and feel assured of their place in the team when we next go to Nzl or SA at the end of 2013.It would be daft to wait till Sachin or Dravid decides to retires and blood youngster in tough away series. People complain about Kohli failing. But when he is playing in a struggling side and with tail with pressure for his place in an unfamiliar position its no wonder he is struggling. Our seniors arent exactly making it easy for youngsters to debut. It would serve as best if Kohli (or Rohit for that matter if Kohli is dropped) is promoted to no.5 ahead of Laxman during the current Aus series. Regardless of what happens in the Aussie series even if we win all three of them should retire sooner. At best England series at the end of year should be the last series for our Big 3.After that they should be pushed out even if they are in reasonable form and refuse to retire.Otherwise it will only be our team that will suffer if the transition isnt handled at the appropriate time. Everyone said the same about the ODI team how youngsters are not good enough and dropping Dravid and Ganguly is a big mistake. But it only turned out the best thing happened for India. We should have the same ruthless approach in selection in tests too. Unless we assure the youngsters of their place and give them a chance at their natural position we wont see the best of them. How exactly do we expect Rohit Sharma's and Pujara's of this world to succeed at no.6 batting with the tail often when all his career he played at a top order batsmen playing with a different mindset?

+1 Time to move on ..having said that VVS will illuminate SCG for one last time for sure...I think he always been a slow starter.

Maybe Dravid and Laxman should retire after the England series 2012. Its better to retire when you are doing well rather than wait to get pushed out. Learn from Sunny how to do it and from Kapil how not to do it.

I hope Laxman and Dravid retire after this series and make a public announcement about it right away. That way they are pressure free and maybe able to give it their best shot one last time. I know these are some big shoes to fill, but the youngsters have to be blooded asap no matter how painful the rebuilding process is.

He should probably go too, but maybe at some point next year. At the moment he seems to be in fine touch.

Yes he was not out of form in England. He looked good in atleast 4 of the 8 innings that we played. Just that he got some very good deliveries or played a loose shot and got out.

Not so sure about that. I think he has won everything in the ODIs, yet he hasn't quit. Unless he is expecting to play at 42 in next WC. Either ways, all these great players have made India proud. But last thing I would want to see is us breeding youngsters in test matches losing all three together at one time.

Whatever happened to meritocracy? Agreed that Dravid was under performing and could have been dropped - but he came back to form just in time, and if he continues that, there is no reason he can not continue. As for SRT, Laxman - they have been our top performers (including Sehwag and ZK, but we are talking about oldies)... SRT has continued to show excellent touch, and Laxman deserves to complete this series, before passing any judgement. As for grooming the youngsters - they must earn their place - even if they have to compete with seniors for next 4 years - based on performance. At one end we talk about Seniors should not be given extended run, on cost of team's results - and on the other hand, we want to give chances to youngsters on platter - which can also very well cost team results!!!.. The so called holy trinity earned their spots based on performances, from whatever chances were given to them - why should it be any different for current crop? what have they done to earn that privilege? Also, youngsters must feel privileged to witness the dressing-room/off-the field-work ethics esp of Dravid and SRT - it will help them and the team in times to come.

Merit? Youngsters have merited selection based on their performance in Ranji trohy. As for giving Seniors time as long as they perform. That is short sightedness.Do u really believe Seniors can last our next tour of Australia or South Africa or England which are four years away? Then what exactly we gain by giving Sachin or Drvaid 2 more years of cricket in Indian condition apart from them filling their stats? If that happens then we have to hastily blood youngsters before some tough away tours which would be nothing short of daftness. Whereas if we give the chance to youngsters we may build a team for the future.Should we look to the individuals glory or future of the team? Yes we might draw a couple of series at home or we might see youngsters performing as well as the holy trinity. But we simply wont know if we arent giving them a chance. Rohit Sharma or Rahane or Pujara scored all his runs in Ranji trophy as top order batsmen. So why do u expect them to prove their mettle in a unfamiliar batting position at no.6?

Because the holy trinity is the past.We dont gain anything by giving them couple more years of test cricket in Indian conditions.Whereas giving those 2 years for youngsters mean we are building for the future. They earned privilage by performing in domestic cricket just like our holy trinity. Now its time to give them a run in the national team in their preferred position. Mind u we exactly didnt do justice to Laxman. With this same logic our selectors nearly destroyed Laxman's career by batting him in unfamiliar position repeatedly at the start of his career. So two wrongs dont make a right. We shouldnt be repeating the same mistakes with current youngsters. And we heard the same argument before in ODIs too.About how youngsters have flopped in world cup 2007 and have to earn their place like Dravid and Ganguly. It exactly didnt go badly.Did it?

What's with blooding the youngsters!!Ganguly and dravid were never blooded, they came and performed from their first match. If our youngsters are good they will do the same.

I do not care - if they stick to work ethics backed up by performances, let them continue for eternity. If youngsters have it in them, outshine the seniors by performing.

When Dravid, SRT, Ganguly (cant recall Laxman's) debuted they immediately showed their potential, in whatever chances at whatever position.... for SRT, it took time to show-off ODI century, but he had already impressed people in tests and ODI cameos. What has Kohli/Raina done - in tests? Apart from two 50s (Kohli) in 3rd test against WI - Kohli didn't do anything of note, even against a weak WI side...Raina didn't do much in whatever chances he was given.. even after several comebacks supremely talented Yuvi, still does not know how to play in tests.. So one has to go by performances in whatever chances are given... e.g. Kohli has deservedly earned his spot in ODIs, and must do so in tests too, same applies to other youngsters... Just by keep giving extended chances, because you are possible future, does not guarantee anything.. e.g. based on initial promise Rohit was given extended run in ODIs.. but had to be dropped to come back strongly, but now deservedly strong candidate for ODIs.

Nor was Sachin blooded with the assurance that he wont be dropped , hell he scored a century in his first tour to England , two centuries in first tour to Australia , another ton in first tour to South Africa . It wasnt like the other great batsmen were told " Ok we are throwing all the oldies out of the team for you , now take your own time and perform at your own convenience " . They earned there places by constantly performing , if they hadnt they would have been out . In the current era , we can only dream about any current youngster performing like Sachin used to during his initial years or even like Dravid who rocked the world in England in his first tour , even Ganguly was better in this respect with his great performances in England . Hey but the current crop of youngsters need all the oldies out of the team for them to perform , rules should have relaxed for them as against those applied for the previous generation batsmen .
