End of Laxman?

^ exactly and first century from SRT was a match saving effort coming low down the order, playing with non-specialist batsmen. Kohli/raina/Yuvi have had enough chances to show their mettle, so whatever chances they are getting, they should try to make most of that. Pujara did show promise last year, but unfortunately got injured at wrong time.

Nor was Sachin blooded with the assurance that he wont be dropped , hell he scored a century in his first tour to England , two centuries in first tour to Australia , another ton in first tour to South Africa . It wasnt like the other great batsmen were told " Ok we are throwing all the oldies out of the team for you , now take your own time and perform at your own convenience " . They earned there places by constantly performing , if they hadnt they would have been out . In the current era , we can only dream about any current youngster performing like Sachin used to during his initial years or even like Dravid who rocked the world in England in his first tour , even Ganguly was better in this respect with his great performances in England . Hey but the current crop of youngsters need all the oldies out of the team for them to perform , rules should have relaxed for them as against those applied for the previous generation batsmen .
Two wrongs dont make a right. When we blood youngsters they should be given extended run in the team on their preferred position. If they have to play for their position everytime they come to bat we wont get the best of them.

I do not care - if they stick to work ethics backed up by performances, let them continue for eternity. If youngsters have it in them, outshine the seniors by performing.
Well i care.I care more for Indian team than individuals.I would rather India send a strong team to England or Australia to win a series than send a team of Rookies with no hope so that it allowed our seniors to fill their stats for 2 more years.
[When Dravid, SRT, Ganguly (cant recall Laxman's) debuted they immediately showed their potential, in whatever chances at whatever position.... for SRT, it took time to show-off ODI century, but he had already impressed people in tests and ODI cameos. What has Kohli/Raina done - in tests? Apart from two 50s (Kohli) in 3rd test against WI - Kohli didn't do anything of note, even against a weak WI side...Raina didn't do much in whatever chances he was given.. even after several comebacks supremely talented Yuvi, still does not know how to play in tests.. So one has to go by performances in whatever chances are given... e.g. Kohli has deservedly earned his spot in ODIs, and must do so in tests too, same applies to other youngsters... Just by keep giving extended chances, because you are possible future, does not guarantee anything.. e.g. based on initial promise Rohit was given extended run in ODIs.. but had to be dropped to come back strongly, but now deservedly strong candidate for ODIs.

I am telling you guys laxman is not gonna retire any soon. I still remember the bitterness and the disappointment he showed when he was not selected for 2003 world cup. Selectors have to force him out of the team.

if seniors need to be Phased out so be it... but it has to involve all 3...no hypocracy there..eventually they have to move on.. its better if they have some plan and tell that to team mangemnt...they may have we just dont know

I hope not. That would be a sad thing to happen for someone like Laxman. Somewhat like the way Kapil retired.

Rohit is the perfect replacment for vvs. But he needs some test matches to prove himself. rohit an pujara imo are guranteed to be great batsman. Im Not very sure about kohli rahane or mukund. So I see no reason why vvs cant play ahead of those 3. Im worried kohli is like dhoni in that hes world class in odis and only occasuonaly usefull in tests. Like dhoni hes not particulary good vs pace or spin. Likes to stay legside of ball. Not a very smooth technique.

Anyone who under-estimates VVS are setting themselves up for a massive egg-on-face. I am willing to bet my house that the guy will deliver this tour.
+1. Thanks I dont need to say much. Same goes for RD as well. Well, after seeing SRT play, they all are set for some big score right in this series. So we will certainly see 3 100s from these big. If we get VS, GG or VK to score some solid with fab 3, we are up for good contest in the remaining games.

You cant always keep looking to the future at the expense of results in the next few yrs as this will simply take Indian cricket backwards, the youngsters coming in would find it demoralising and fans will be calling for their heads! I agree we should be giving people like Rohit/Kohli/Rahane/Pujara a chance but you cant retire a man like RD who has averaged 60 this year and our best player as having hiim around also helps the young guys. Theres only 1 senior VVS who should be thinking of retiring in the next 12-18 months.

If (and a big one at that) Kohli scores today, I would drop VVS for the next one and replace him with Rohit Sharma. Enough respect shown to our senior citizens, we need to win some games as well.

I remember it was at the start of 2011 when people were calling him our greatest player under pressure etc and now just because he has failed in a few series', those same people are calling for him to retire. Girgit kahin ke :finger:

Hope Kohli scores a big one here so that Lazy Ass Laxman can be kicked out sooner . Back to back failures in India's two most important overseas tours will not be tolerated at any cost . Laxman will be gone for good after India lose this series .

Well, Laxman was great for us for long time, but time has come for him to hang up the boots. There is no way we'd do well in Australia without Laxman's contribution, but his failure in Australia is the final blow, and he should retire at the end of the series.

How is this hypocrisy? Hypocrisy is not recognsing that Sachin is clearly many nothces above Dravid and Laxman and is considered the same by everyone. Hypocrisy is not recognising that Sachin is still the most prized wicket for the Aussies. In current form why on earth would you want to remove Sachin? And you realoly must be a super-genius of thinking of dropping all three at once so that we can go back to the stone ages. In order of class and form, it should be Laxman, then Dravid, then Sachin. Moving out all three at once would be the most retarded decision ever and the only reason you are mentioning that is because you get a chance to show your 'equality' and 'neutrality' against Sachin again P.S, I dont even care if the order is different. But retiring all three at the same time? Have you thought this through?
