Watching Dravid at the age of 39 playing for Indian ODI team in England series shows how bad the team planning is. Although core of Indian team players are injured but still it doesnÃÕ make sense to bring the player back who is virtually counting his career days especially not after the team had been crowned as World Champions less than four months ago. There is no question on Dravid talent but itÃÔ a red light on the road to the development of team. A champion team knows when to prolong and when to end the chances for a player. Australia is a champion team and they had their timing of decisions mostly right. Their rules might sound cruel but they sent out a strong message to all the players that ÅÕeam is first and players are next? Steve Waugh, arguably the best captain of Australia was denied and forced to retire earlier on the same year when he wanted one last chance to win in India in 2004. Australian team management might have sounded rude here because for the success that Steve bought to them, he deserved a chance. But with youngsters knocking the door into the team, it was the best decision for the team since Steve was already 37yrs old. Steve place went to Michael Clarke in 2004 series where he played a significant role on his debut series in which Australia ended 35years test series win drought in India. But the case with Indian team is different. Instances like Kapil Dev carried on playing so long denying Prasad the chance to debut earlier, Yuvraj at his peak was often denied a spot in the test XI and Harbhajan was in the team even after continuous poor performances shows the team management failures in carrying out effective planning. Now with Sachin, Dravid and Laxman all aging, itÃÔ time to forecast and implement the effective plan. Making a decision at right time is what matters in team sport. Although Sachin, Dravid and Laxman still add values to team, they are indirectly limiting chances for players in their right time. Indian young players like Rohit, Pujara and Kohli are at right stage to start playing longer format more. Because once a player finds his way going easy in playing cricket, they start losing focus for improvement and ends up becoming quantity rather than quality player as the year goes on. ThatÃÔ what happened on the case of Badrinath, Jaffer and Yuvraj Singh. After hitting a double century in last year Irani Trophy, Yuvraj Singh said to one of the selectors ÅÊtÃÔ boring to play? This statement was not against playing domestic cricket rather he wants challenges to keep him focused. Had the challenge of test cricket is given to Yuvraj at right time, who knows he might have become the Gary Sobers for Indian team by now. Same thing will happen to current crop of talented youngster very soon if chances are denied at right time. Hopefully by next year, the baton will pass to talented youngsters from these three great players. Not only it gives chances to young talents but it also makes the team look lot fitter, stronger and better overall on the field. When will India get a new selection committee?? i am curious, because this is the only way i see any changes happening. you need some bold leadership on the administrative side, guys with a different way of thinking that recognises the need to move forward. guys that arent pandering to the numbnut audiences that continuously track statistics in their spare time without watching matches. the indian public is just a reflection of ICF - a body of gullible idiots that are incapable of seeing reality and more interested in what their favourite player does. indian cricket needs some new thinking. CSK Cheeka assured a blind indian public of a series win in australia, and even after some reasonable preparation we can't beat a mediocre aussie side. there is still some deadwood in the team that hasn't been taken out. face it, it just isnt a great team anymore. how this guy retains his job, i'll never know. at least some new selectors would think some different players to bring in. some different ideas. our team is stale, predictable and aging quickly. oppositon have figured us out - don't believe me? look at the dismissals of sehwag and laxman. perfectly planned. when will we see changes being made??

Did you expect the batsmen to fail before the series started? Tell me one change you would have made to the team before the the team selection. SRT, Dravid, Viru and Laxman all needed to be there on the tour because of their experience of Aus conditions. Ashwin did well at home but we did not try him overseas. Gautam could not have been dropped from the tour without giving him another chance. Kohli and Rohit were good prospects at the back of some good scores in the subcontinent. Dhoni is not good enough as a batter but who will be the replacement for him. He keeping is pretty decent. He needs to be aggressive in his captaincy though. Nobody is coming forward to be the captain. Viru is not mature enough to be a captain as can be seen from his comments to the media. We have limited bowling options and any other bowler in place of the present crop would not have done better. Ishant Sharma is one bowler who is droppable. Do you think the selection committee will retain the same team after a probable loss in the series? Certainly heads will roll. So think before you make sweeping statements.

Next year. Amarnath replaced Yashpal from the North Zone and is expeted to take over from Srikkanth. Things could change though.

what changes can we realistically expect?.the big 3 will retire on their own.Viru and GG have been terrible this year but their replacements haven't set the world on fire either.we got some good middle order prospects but they need a lot of seasoning.

The board should fix tours for India A & India B to Australia, South Africa and England and schedule 4 or 5 day matches. Plus the board can get some of these players to play domestic cricket of some level in these countries. Thats the only way for these guys to get used to conditions abroad. Unfortunately, after the thrashing we are going to get in Australia, the Indian team will be playing only in sub-continental conditions for the next two years and everyone will forget the humiliation as they will win everything on the flat tracks. If the Board has any sense, they will spent these two years preparing the bench strengh because from Dec 2013 onwards the team will be touring South Africa, New Zealand, England and Australia.

judging by the way ppl like u can justify the team selection on the basis of 'experience' and what not, i dont expect heads to roll. heads should have rolled after england. that was the culmination of a decline that set in a long time ago. my comments are all about WHAT I WANT TO SEE, not what i expect. obviously, they arent gonna remove dhoni. he is too big a figure in indian cricket. and they wont ask the big 4 to step aside. i am just hoping there is someone out there that can make some of these big calls, because indian cricket desperately needs change. if these big names can't win us a single game, why not just start afresh with new players? doesnt make a difference. at least we would be ushering in a new generation.

There undoubtedly need to be changes from top to bottom, the whole structure is stale and past its sell by date. From old man Fletcher downwards there need to be fresh ideas and new thinking, won't get it with the current lot. A key issue is that there is too much deference in Ind cricket and society. There needs to be a ruthless streak, if you can no longer perform at the highest level then make way for others who can. You don't build and maintain winning teams by living in the past but by looking to the future. Unfortunately the whole Ind cricket system is built to benefit the present and until that changes then we will always be playing catch up to other teams.

This! Folks were happy with the team selection especially when Varun Aaron was also present. The only difference of opinion on team selection was after Aaron was injured and choice of spare seamer (Mithun-da + VeenayKooommarr) The rest of the selection was on target including the decision to ditch Dartbhajan and play Ashwin/Ojha. This is the famed batting lineup of Sehwag, GG, RD, SRT, VVS that is goofing up. What in the bollocks are they gonna do? Send Rahane and Rohit and those two are gonna set Aus on fire? The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of Maharathi Stalwarts RD, SRT, VVS and VS/GG - what in the frikkin name are these Maharathis scratching around?

Exactly, other than some difference about the spare seamers (and even there who else is the best seamer Abu Nechim, Dinda? That is debateable), this is the BEST team that the selection committee has selected. Unfortunately, the BEST batsmen screwed up, that's a different story. But these are the best of Indian batsmen they have put together. One example: VVS Laxman is a class batsman against Aus, he goofed up and now its selectors' fault? :facepalm: This is just another :fail: troll thread.
