surajmal Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I have a theory that the general lack of confidence/assertiveness among Indians is due to its sh!t sports teams and vice versa. To prove that this corollary holds true lets look at few other countries. USA is good at every thing, hence the arrogance. Australia is good at most sports it participates in and you can understand the smugness. Briturds are pretty mediocre, hence the general resigned attitude. Chinese while aren't good at pro sports, they rape olympics, hence their new found confidence. Indians suck at everything, even things where there are plenty of resources and funds available, hence the general loser enivornment across all walks of life.
Sooda Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 For me the whole 'cricket is a religion and we should be doing great' is overstated. There are millions of kids too poor and other millions of kids nowadays more interesting in becoming software programmers.

punjabi_khota Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 US is good at every sport ? Kiddin brah ? The only sport they dominate are the ones no one else gives a shyte about. They suck at soccer, have no one in tennis who has won anything since over a decade, obviously don't play cricket.
Vijay.Sharma Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Expect the "Brown Bastard" to miss the point...what's new? Anyway, I don't think generalizing that Indians are not a confident lot and that too as a result of sport, is true. The fact is that we haven't had a culture of sport in the country. When it comes to confidence immaterial of sport, yes we can say that up to a large extent the average Indian two decades ago was found wanting when it came to the world scene. We had an inferiority complex ingrained in our psyche so badly and it took us until the late 90s to start getting rid of that inferiority complex. But I am sure the generation growing up since the late 80s early 90s do not have such low confidence in themselves (the Brown Bastard will testify to that)

Vijay.Sharma Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Zabardasti assumption. :dontknow:He is suffering from a disease wherein he thinks all Indians lack self respect, duty, and accountability. He is possibly projecting a couple of his friends or worse still his own image on the rest of the nation.

bulbul Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 If people are so much fed up with Cricket follow Kabaddi.....
Cricketics Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 For me. It's just first inining AND JUST DAY 1. Plenty to play for. FTW.
Clarke Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 SM, ur looking at it the other way. Success in multiple international sports follows the country's development and not vice versa. There's the national passionate following (Brazil ~ Soccer, formerly India ~ Hockey etc) and then there's the overall trend that can be observed in the Olympics. As a country's economy grows, the govt is able to spare more for development of sports. The confidence then follows the overall success of the country, and its not limited to sporting achievements. Our athletes must be better off now using the CWG facilities than earlier. Lets not forget, our first individual gold medal winner came from a rich family and has a shooting range at his farmhouse. His family's wealth must be related to India's growth story.

India suffers in sports because Indians, perhaps more than any other citizens of a country, have this weird tendency to lay responsibility on somebody else and get into argumentative mood for the heck of it. The Western world does good in sports because an average Westerner is fit, healthy and has (generally speaking) a more outdoorsy and sporty mindset. Even the Indians who have moved abroad stick to the same old routine. Lets celebrate spelling bee champions in US, or how 2 Indian origins are Governors now, or how those Sikhs and Gujjus in England are representing England in cricket. You want India to go good in sports, starts with you. Get a fit culture going, do your own contribution, dont worry about others doing it. xxx

A country with our size & diversity should be able to produce world class athletes provided there are facilities in place to nurture the best talent there is in the country. Sooner or later, the grain will be sorted from the chaff and international success will motivate talented youngsters to pursue sports as a career. You think USA, the all time lord of the Olympics has this super duper fit/healthy/outdoorsy attitude ? Why would it suffer from the world's highest obesity rate & major healthcare problems ? I bet you, with your fitness routine fall sick far lesser than the average Indian or American.
