His last notable overseas Test innings was the 91 in the first test against South Africa in a losing cause. Saha versus Karthik is touch and go. It would depend on current form and fitness. Didnt he top scored with 70's in both innings of trent bridge test.He averaged 35 in the England series which is very good for a WK batsman (particularly in a struggling side) in my view.

NareshK Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I dont whats this fixation with Karthick.He has been struggling for runs in domestic cricket for nearly 2 years.I dont see how he can even be choosen ahead of Saha let alone Dhoni. Dhoni deserves to be sacked as cpatain but his batting has been good for a WK before this series.And this series he had Ashwin and Ishant in melboure and Zaheer here for company when he got out.Its not like he failed to stick around with top order batmsen.Also maybe reliving him of captaincy may make him a better batsmen in test cricket.Either way he deserves few series as wk without captaincy pressure IMO. Also Sehwag is too good a player to be kept out of the side and like Dhoni he still has 5 years of cricket in him.His problem is lack of technique against moving ball.If he dropped down and saved from new ball he will still be a major force in middle order even away from sub continent in my view. That's the change I wanted to see in this test but the Indian side seems reluctant to make any changes to their strategies and seem to stick to whatever has worked in the past.

The scorecard says 5 and 0 in the Trent Bridge test match. I believe you are referring to the Birmingham Test match in which he scored twin 70s. MS Dhoni averaged 31.42 in 4 Test matches which includes a not out 74 and goes down to 27.5 when you don't consider the not out. I think it's poor as a batsman more so, since 140/220 runs scored were in 1 Test match (Birmingham). This is my opinion.

Like it happened at Sydney.[/quote'] Indian tail has not been this bad recently,just this year but dhoni does not stick himself with top order batsman when it is needed he is usually first one to get out,But worse his if you ask him question about why he is not performing he will always say my technique is bad,It seems he has already accepted he will not score runs abroad.

Lets accept that. I agree that 1-6 should fire but that doesn't stop the number 7 from firing. England was a collective batting failure and MS Dhoni is a part of it.

Indian cricket would be better off. no test series for 8 months, might as well plan the succession now. Otherwise we will see England or even nz smash India in front of our own crowds. I would be in favour of dropping gambhir and sehwag too. They have done little to justify their selection. Iwould do it just to send out a message. Keep the bowlers, and use a new batting lineup 1-7. Make Zaheer captain. He sets a lot of the fields anyway.

Even Ashwin averages more than a lot of batsmen. :cheer: From top of my head: 50 he scored in newzealand along with Bhajji after we collapsed. 90 he scored along with Sachin when we were fighting to save the test.Then the 20 odd he scored in Durban.he was the 2nd highest aggregate in the Durban test behind Laxman IIRC. Then top scored in 3rd test in England.Again top scored in 1st innings of 2nd test in this series. Now can u point out similar contributions from our previous WK batsmen away from sub continent.

On this forum itself, we get a first hand view of what the common freshie thinks. Tendulkar 100, Dravid, lax man, all get their dicks sucked off by these adoring fans no matter what they do. Ppl make excuses for the failures of younger players yet they find a way to justify the failures of their favourite heroes. The selectors are very much of the same mindset. They fawn over meaningless stats, never hesitate to remind you how many runs xyz has scored, how much EKSHPERIENSH they have. They give the public what it wants, and don't have the balls to make hard decisions. India carried Dravid for 4 years of run drought, before that they carried tendulkar for a previous 3 years of run drought, and after 4-0 whitewash in England, there was no clearing of the dead wood. I just can't shake off the feeling that nothing will be done and we might well see the same side failing at home about 8 months from now.
