Very Very Special, often underestimated and often the fall guy for no fault of his. Always gave his best and played the best above the rest in tests and yet always with the sword of Damocles over his head soaking and relishing and turning things amidst great pressure. The tragedy of his career has been he may well have been our best test cricket bat ever in terms of mental strength and ability to lead back the team from the brink of defeat. Its then an irony he will end his brilliant career against the very side that led to build his status in test cricket and made him a legend for India. The very side he exceeded his best the most and always came up trumps. Watching the events down under I have no doubt this is the last time we will see him play a test. Maybe he will play Adelaide maybe not. last test or last series is not certain. But what is certain that after the Aus tests we will not see this match winning - match saving hero bat his wristy magic again. A bit poetic too that his career actually began in Aus for him in a similar disastrous tour in 2000 and finally ends with a disaster at the same place a little over a decade later. I hope wisdom will prevail and Dravid isn't forced out after this series at the same stretch as well. Emotions running high for this one man who literally turned things around for India and impacted our destiny in ways we never imagined. I need to make this post here for Laxman. My hero of our test team. His knock at Kolkotta a decade back it was that finally instilled the self belief we always lacked and imparted a mental strength we never had to do consistently well in tests not just at home but overseas as well. It led to a strong decade of consistencies and highs in tests we never experienced in our entire cricketing history. I hope he gets one last test so he can retire with dignity and is not thrown out without as much as a shot at redemption by the BCCI. I hope we will see him play at Adelaide and his story doesn't come to an unsatisfactory end. Thank you for everything Laxman. Thank you for the magic, the belief, the memories and for those wonderful wins and draws from hopeless situations that could have led us back to the valley of despair. Most of all, thank you for being a very good player, team man, cricketer, ambassador for the nation and the game and for being the role model we all can look upto for inspiration. Thank you Laxman. :bow::congrats::isalute:

A sad way to the end of the career of a great servant of Indian cricket. Never demanded anything, never made any noises in the media, kept playing on for the team despite being under the scanner most of his career. One of the key reasons why we hung onto our number 1 rank for 22 months, kept winning us matches from hopeless situations. Thank you VVS and wish you the best for the future ahead

I will be surprised if he announce his retirement.
He should retire. the next series is in October? What will he do for 8 months? Does he still play the IPL?

Right now he has no IPL team. The Kochi Jokers are no more. From the statements coming in the press it doesn't seem that anyone is going to retire. Maybe the oldies will take the field in a wheelchair. I am sure BCCI will get ICC to amend the rules accordingly.

Should retire now after so much humiliation. He'd be completely selfish if he not retires now. He is completely below standards. Not even half on the scale. Many top teams only keep players who contributes in either 2 field batting bowling and fielding. This is minimum requirement. He neither contributes with ball, completely useless in field(if not standing in slips), just knows one way, raising his hands towards the ball is going and these days also useless with bat when there is little bit swing in the wicket

ADELAIDE: Embattled batsman VVS Laxman has quashed talks of his impending retirement following his dismal performance in the ongoing Test series against Australia, saying that such reports were untrue. Emerging out of the one-on-one technical session with coach Duncan Fletcher in the team training session, Laxman dismissed speculations that he is on the verge of retirement. "When Laxman was approached by an Indian television journalist after the session, the 37-year-old insisted reports of his impending retirement were untrue," a report in 'The Age' said. Laxman is not alone among the Indian batsmen who have had little impact on the series, but the elegant stroke player has lacked freedom, failing to find other ways to score when the Australians blocked off his boundary areas. He has scored just 102 runs from the six innings he has played so far at an average of 17. His languid fielding and ongoing back problems, combined with his poor form, have prompted reports that he would be the first of India's ageing champions to retire, perhaps even before the Adelaide Test, starting January 24. Fletcher spent a significant amount of time in Laxman's net working on technical aspects of his batting, suggesting his tour is not finished. Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has also defended Laxman, saying that no individual batsman should be blamed for the Indian team's debacle in Australia as it was a collective failure.

When people say that VVS has never been good fielder in his life and never been athletic so why do we expect him to be now? I always say, no need to go far enough, just look at the examples of Sri Lanka. Sri-lankan team was not that athletic in 90s and their legends like Jayasuriya, Aravinda desilva, Mahela Jayawardene, Murali and others were not athletic at the start of their career but they really improved their fielding and their athleticism since 1999 world-cup. So, VVS should have also worked on his fitness during 2001-2008 period when he was little younger than now. But, he was not that committed. He was lazy and he always thought that he will stay in the team only on the basis of his batting. He has been left out of the ODI team in 2000-2008 period given his fielding, running between the wickets and lack of feet movement. He should have worked on it rather than whining. He will be immediate to point out that he never got the opportunity to play in WC. But, what measures has he taken to improve his overall game
