Why separate yardstick for Tendulkar

Tendulkar should be the first to go out of the three. At least Dravid and Laxman are committed to playing test matches unlike Tendulkar who prefers IPL. Of course, given the rabid fan following he has this will not happen.
or should not happen. Forget the emotional part, purely on the basis of his performances over the last couple of years he deserves a longer run than the other two. btw you in troll mode? :)

Troll much? Seeing how poor they are at the format and still manage to get contracts... Yeh they don't care about IPL So what kept Dravid in the team the last few years, considering its the fan base that decides who plays for India
Its not just ordinary folks. Sachin seems to have a fan base even among selectors and ex cricketers. :winky: They are calling for Dravid and Laxman's head but they conveniently ignore Sachin is just as old and flopped as bad as they have.

Performance? Couple of years? And you are asking me if I am trolling? What relevance does a more than a year old series in South Africa have for selection today? And anyhow, why should someone who prefers IPL over test cricket be given the benefit of doubt?

Or maybe Tendulkar was doing something which many people are whining about, giving youngsters a chance to secure a spot. England tour was the most important thing at that time and he prepared for it quite a bit, yeh he failed, but it wasn't something he treated as a joke

Right! Last heard, Dravid became captain for an IPL team and Laxman tried to alter his game and cowlash all the way in IPLs. It's not Sachin's fault and Dravid and Laxman are not good enough for ODIs anymore.

As far as I am concerned test cricket is the ultimate thing and I gave a proper rant to Dhoni as well when he skipped the series against Sri Lanka. Just because Tendulkar does the same will not change my attitude that every player should show 100% commitment towards playing test cricket for India. Best preparation for the England tour would have been to play actual test cricket on tough pitches like we saw in the West Indies.

English and Caribbean wickets are hardly the same. He was in England pretty much straight after the IPL

So you are suggesting throw downs in England are a better preparation for the test series than actual test cricket on tough pitches?

this is a fair point. tendulkar isnt as washed up as dravid or laxman but at least those two guys - in spite of their incompetence - prioritise test matches. tendulkar doesn't even do that. all the seniors need to go, ASAP.

Picking on Sachin just because he 'rested' for one WI series against a second rung team is extremely juvenile. He has similarly 'rested' for many ODI tournaments as well. And if he was so intent on T20s, he would have played the Champions League as well (with injury), from which he backed out. Criticism with prejudice always sounds sour.

Sachin retiring will also give Sehwag the chance to drop down to no.4 where he will be better protected against new ball and will be much more effective. So we wont be inexperienced in middle order either. So really there in no real need for Sachin to play at best after England series apart from filling his stats. Frankly i dont have much hope of our seniors retiring voluntarily.None of them retired voluntarily in ODI cricket so they arent suddenly gone change their mind set and retire. Selectors need to show some responsibility and ask them to either retire or face the chop.It may happen in Laxman's case due to the humiliations but very much doubt Dravid and Sachin will retire any time soon. Whats more likely to happen unfortunately is they will play another 2 years filling their stats in home conditions and retire just before our away tours meaning we will again get thrashed with a bunch of inexperienced youngsters

Look at the way Laxman is being treated like crap by the media and ex-players and they don't dare utter a word about sachin even though he was the worst among the big 3 last year.I called out this hypocrisy long back.He could not even score against w.indies at home so much for looking good.If dravid can be called out for performing below par in just three test matches after being the highest rungetter in the world in 2011 i don't know why sachin should be given a free pass.I say all the three need to go after the australian series.

There was nothing wrong with Sachin resting in west Indies series. In fact we should have been doing that more with our seniors for the past couple of years so that youngsters were blooded sooner.Unfortunately our selectors were too short sighted.

Well, going by Sehwag's form he needs to retire as well (or maybe get dropped). But no, he'll score one odd 150+ and hang on for the next ten Tests.

He scored a match-winning 76 in the first Test and scored a 94 in the 3rd Test that contributed in saving the follow-on. And all the three going together is ridiculously shortsighted.

But no, he'll score one odd 150+ and hang on for the next ten Tests.[/quote'] I have already said this in another thread. Sehwag is never great against new ball but still one of our finest players and has atleast 5 years test cricket in him.We have to remember than he is originally a middle order batsman who was pushed to open due to no slot available in middle order. And as a middle order batsmen his lack of footwork wont be exposed against new ball.So by protecting him against new ball he will still be devastatingly effective even n overseas conditions.Thats why Sehwag should drop down to no.4 position rather than being dropped.
