Number Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Have you ever seen him bat? No , but following his performances from EPT gives me an impression he is very inconsistent. Plays 2-3 good innings this season but overall not very good. Uday is definitely better.

Average below 30 after 23 Tests is pathetic especially for someone playing in subcontinent. He cannot open for India. People are calling for Sehwag to be dropped because since 2008 his average outside Asia's been about Dinesh Karthik's career average. Why would you want him to get a call up? @Numb, maybe it's because of his higher strike rate, I don't know. Kaul has a strike rate of 41, perhaps he's a domestic accumulator accumulator and cannot dominate the bowling. But he should be tried, maybe he's just a slow player like Dravid.

Always played as a replacement for Dhoni. We should not forget that. He is a better wicket keeper compared to Dhoni.

Strike rates don't matter much in tests unless it's very good (>75-80) Uday's high scoring runs mostly came in a time when Punjab was in trouble , so that may be a reason for his low strike. His List A strike rate is Decent.
India-KXIP fan Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 He isn't always keeping for Punjab. That's the only reason I can think of. At the start of this season he played a game as specialist batsmen but since then became keeper/captain. Deserves a chance in tests obviously.

He deserves ahead of Parthiv in ODis though. Anyone seen Kaul keep wicket or bat rather than just stats? Hopefully he has a better technique than Dhoni.

Having said that, he should have been included in the ODI squad ahead of Parthiv for the CB series.

In this year's Ranji he played few terrific innings, one of them being a match winning innings against Delhi. He is a strong contender. But I would prefer Dinesh Karthick being given another chance in place of Dhoni in test matches. Dhoni can continue playing ODI's in sub-continents, along with IPL, CL etc.

That much i can tell. Rest are all either average or yet to prove. Hope we run into a decent wicket keeper batsman soon. This guy deserves a chance. But his true potential wont be known as he will always be treated as Dhoni's replacement when he is unavailable.
MCcricket Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 D Kartick, N Ojha are the two most talented keeper/ bats, Kartick has issues with temperament and building innings, Naman Ojha is a ODI , T20 kinda player, likes to hit boundaries .

Why? he is better batsman than dhoni in tests and regarding keeping yes he is not as good as dhoni to spinners but he would have improved in last few years.
