^^ When I went over for a visit, I wanted to buy my female cousin some western clothes which I thought would look good on her - clothes that she can wear to college, to movies, restaurants etc. Decided against it in the end. No way would I want her to get "eve - teased" (sexual harassment/assault if you use the correct language) and have her self esteem and independence shattered. A lot of liberties that are taken for granted in the west, India is still in the stone age trying to accept them.
Where does your cousin live? Jhumritalaiya?

huh, I don't quite get this. You cousin, like anyone else in this world, will wear whatever clothes she is comfortable in, not just because you bought it for her. You seriously don't think you saved her all those humiliations, do you? :cantstop:

Why is everything that happens in the west taken as standard that should be met in India? Why must your cousin wear western clothes to be perfectly modern and liberal? How the F does that make any sense? What's wrong in what she wears everyday here in India? I find nothing wrong in the way Indian women dress.

Dude, eve-teasing has nothing to do with how a woman dresses. I have personaly seen even women in burkhas being eve-teased

There you go NeutralCat, talk about deliberately missing the point. Sensitive indeed :king:
I agree that there are many Indian men with twisted sensibilities and see women as object and don't know how to respect them but SORRY, your post still stays stupid. :giggle:

Well' date=' that's a start.[/quote'] But Sree why you wanted to give "modern" dress to your female cousin...do you really thought she is not good enough to understand what dress suits her best??

Like I said, its what I thought she would like. It was an assumption and I am willing to admit, that assumption could have been wrong.

Sexual harassment in India is pretty bad, I guess the size of the population only magnifies this. I think the problem needs to be seriously looked at, like I said a few of my female friends who went to India all told me the same thing. Using the term "eve teasing" is watering it down a lot, the real term is sexual assault or sexual harassment. I live in Australia and a lot of these Indian students who come here have no idea how to treat women, I have seen it first hand how they stare at women on trains, buses etc. I know this sounds harsh but this is Australia, and when the girl is with their husbands/boyfriends and these Indian guys keep staring at the women, despite being told to not do it they continue to do so, and hence they end up getting bashed up. These guys think they are still in India and can treat women the same way they do there. Just look at the increase in rapes etc in Delhi, most of the rapes are very brutal and it seems to be rising every year. I know rapes and assaults happen allover the world and it;s not just India, but at the moment it seems like every day there is a rape in India and that's just the reported ones.

Well' date=' that's a start.[/quote'] Well I have always held that thought. Don't act like you made me realize that. But from that post I have to say, your thought process is weird and twisted too.
