NeutralCat Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Didn't know where to post this thread as it is not cricket related, but I want to ask you guys here do you think Indians in general are too sensitive to criticism, humor etc directed towards India? Sometimes it seems to me that Indian's do not like the truth pointed out to us, we tend to think we are such an amazing country and co do no wrong, so when someone points the finger and shows us the poverty, corruption we tend to not like that? Are you good a burying our heads in the sand? And that's why we don't like to be criticized? I really would like to get a discussion started on this, I think it would be interesting to see the opinions of the people on here.
Old guy Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 tbh every country is.. every person is different some of us might be sensible ,some of us dont give a damn and laugh along big deal ;) u cant generalize whole country like this
bharat297 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Emotional is probably a better word ... We go overboard in our reactions to victories and defeats.
NeutralCat Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Yes I know every country is different, I moved to Australia when I was 12 and grown up in the Aussie culture, and Australians are very easy going, they poke fun at everything and everyone. In India on the other had it seems like India lacks a sense of humor to laugh at ourselves, like I said we don't like criticism, we don;t like people pointing out our flaws as a country. I might be wrong here, I don't think it's all Indians, you can't generalize a country of 1.16 billion like that, but I think we are too sensitive most time.

Pakistan Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 It is not just Indians. South Asians are very emotional people. It seems like Indians are very emotional because they make up 1/6 population of the world.
express bowling Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Show me a country that is not sensitive to criticism ?
Mariyam Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 My observation is that people who are comfortable with their identity are not really very sensitive or reactionary to criticism/jokes directed at them. Its those who aspire to be, or show others that they are something/someone else are the ones who are most offended by criticism. PS: Moving this to chit chat as it doesn't have much to do with cricket.
Mr Know All Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 One thing for sure is we can't take a joke. Many Indians laugh at all Chinese, Jamaican jokes of Russell Peters. But get offended with his India jokes.

It is still much better than last decade, although we have become louder
Zelch Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 It is not just Indians. South Asians are very emotional people. It seems like Indians are very emotional because they make up 1/6 population of the world. Genius, Pakistan floats in a completely different boat, we know that. Please dont mix them with something like in "South Asian". Indian response to criticism is not even an issue when it comes to Pakistani response to tackling anything that they dont like. There is no word called Self Criticizm in Pak society. People get killed over this issue while the rest of them cheer the killer. So no comparison there. Among Indians, I have not seen any informed and well read Indian going bonkers if someone criticizes. Its always the puerile who have a go but deep down even they know if there is a point. Eg: Michael Vaughn and Indian Tweeple.
bihutoli Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Well I think a whole lot of criticism especially from outsiders is usually irrational and poorly thought out. Especially criticism in the realms of our economic state and social structures etc. That I think takes the most goat out of people. Also it may actually be a small minority that is usually vocally sensitive and aggresive to criticism, but given our size they are enough to flood message boards. Still it is embarassing when otherwise literate people make a fool of themselves on the internet over non issues.
zombiePotato Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 insecure...over sensitive...drama queen-kings.. scared to call spade a spade Only heavy metal heal us \m/ :P
daryl1985 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 More sensitive than most i think. The people abusing Lloyd and Vaughan on twitter are a disgrace. I think a number of Indian people overreacted to Nasser Hussain's donkey comment (about India's fielding)
BERGKAMP Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 not really more than anyone else, it's just 1% of idiots from 1.5 billion is a whole lot more than any other country. if the chinese knew english it would be the same for them.
