saneindian Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Earlier there was a news that BCCI has replaced the test series in Sri Lanka with 3 ODIs and 3 t20s. http://www.espncricinfo.com/srilanka/content/current/story/547894.html With the possibility of a young team taking the field when we play our next test, we must play tests on that tour to give our younger batsman at least 4-5 tests before they take on England at home and then later on Australia. After the IPL, can't let our younger batsmen be playing some useless Singer Cup or Dilmah Cup in Sri lanka. Better to play a proper test series and groom younger batsmen.

If u remember we played both tests and ODIs in that tour.But there isnt much space in the calender now.So in such situations Srilanka board will do what is best for them and that is the right thing too. And either way the world T20 is soon after this series and we dont play much international T20 apart from this tour before the world T20.So this isnt a bad decision for us either seeing the way how we were dumped out of last 2 T20 world cups. We play Nzl series before England and infact England are hardly a strong team in sub continent.It would probably a much easier series than playing SRL away.

Actually most criticized BCCI then too claiming playing 2 test series as joke. Iwouldn't mind t if they shifted entire IPL to SL for a season. But to cancel a test tour thats there in FTP and replacing it with ODis and t20s is daft. As for the argument about this being used as preparation for t20 WC, well we have 2 t20s vs Australia and the selectors have picked the same team for t20 that will play ODIs. Shows how much priority is being given to the t20 WC.

BCCI will look pretty stupid if it reverses the decision after agreeing to the Sri Lankan request. As for IPL, it is India's domestic tournament. Why should it be played in Sri Lanka? Whats the logic?

We've played everyone pretty recently away from home. how about another tour of NZ or SA. i would even take another tour of SL, as we havent won a series there since 93. its irrelevant who the oppositon are. my point is that we cant spend the next 2 years at home in this transition phase. we've seen blowhards like yuvraj and murali bhijay score runs at home. the only way to distinguish between the emerging test quality players and the abortion cases is by observing them in these series away from home in different conditions. all our great players had a tough grind away from home at the beginning of their careers. the current lot aren't getting that and we'll be a worse team because of it

So it's not really possible to have a tour before that. i wasnt aware of the itinerary. either way, the scheduling seems poorly thought out. can you remember the last time india went 2 str8 years playing test series at home without any away tour in between?? i cant
