There is no chance of a bilateral series anytime soon. I might admire current Pak team, but certainly not Pak's politics. In any case, the wounds from 26/11 and previous atrocities are still too raw.

I would like to address an issue which has been on my mind for some time. On Christmas day 1914 during the first world war, english and german troops left their trenches and went out into no mans land to greet and fraternize with one another. Besides the sharing of food and drink the two sides organized several friendly football games with one another. It was and remains a symbol of mutual humanity during a time of pain and hardship, and is still well remembered today. There are people today in both Pakistan and India who would like nothing more than to widen the growing split between two peoples, fostering generation after generation of hatred and mistrust. For India and Pakistan to participate in friendly competition with one another would be a symbol of brotherhood and common humanity so much like those held during WW1. I am not Indian or Pakistani, and I do not claim to understand the pain one must feel when a friend or loved one is lost to the senseless violence which has plagued the two countries history. But I will say this, those who commit such violence do so in the hope of sowing greater and greater divisions between the two countries. To agree to participation in matches with Pakistan, India would be sending its strongest possible message to those who attacked it, that it will not allow their hatred and fear to infect another generation of Indians. That it will embrace ideas of unity, not emnity, and that it is they who are the true enemies of both India and Pakistan. Cricket is just a game it is true, but in times of difficulty it can become much more than that, it can become a light to those hoping for a future free of anger and retribution. It can become a source of mutual healing and friendship. In our never ending struggles to make the world a safer place for us and for our children, perhaps we should put down the guns and pick up a cricket bat. Just my opinion :hatsoff:

With India and Pakistan its not about Cricket. We cannot ignore the other issues. The other issues have to be addressed first. Matches in tournaments is different.There are ICC obligations. At the end of the day any sport is for enjoyment and entertainment, and two countries virtually at war cannot enjoy the contest. I cannot for instance, see many Arab countries playing a friendly football series with Israel. Sport cannot be seen in isolation from International realities. The day we can play mutual series against Pakistan is the day Pakistan stops being the centre and sponsor of terrorism against India. There are people here who have taken personal losses. I lost a friend and colleague in the Leopald cafe shooting on 26/11. He had just gone there to have a Beer with friends. Funny part was, I was supposed to join them, but at the last moment couldn't make it to Mumbai. I also know other people who have lost their loved ones in various blasts sponsored from across the border. In the last 12 years, I have interacted with hundreds of Pakistanis who live and work in the Middle East and know exactly what they feel about India and Indians. I wish this thread was not started. Maybe the mods should take a call on whether it should continue.

Why not? Sport is not influenced by international issues on the pitch its purely about 22 sportsmen who are not terrorists or done anything wrong playing a game representing their country, it simply grounds us and shows the politicians that we are all the same souls, peaceful and made in the image of God and thats all we will ever be :P But England was bombed by French and Germans during WW2 doesnt mean they dont play each other at football. They also suffered terrorism a few yrs back by a paki train bomber, but they play each other in cricket. On a serious note, we should never tour Pakistan, but neurtral venues i.e. Dubai would be perfect.

not even close. he is about as mediocre as they come, just puts it up there and lets the pitch do the rest. ashwin is good on turners, has all the variations. ojha tore it up in english county cricket and was very good against the WI. and anyway, the might of mohommamed hafeez, tu-faaq umar, and whichever of 20 akmals you're playing isn't exactly a daunting lineup. i remember a part time scrub like marcus north taking a 6fer against this lineup of legends not too ago.

More than an India-Pak series, I would like to see young cricketers play more county cricket and get used to tough conditions when the ball swings, seams and bounces around. The real challenge is to play well in South Africa, England and Australia. So we need to build a team for the future.
