Interim coach Mohsin Khan believes Pakistan have the ability to become the best Test team in the world. More... Pakistan can be world's best Test team - Mohsin Khan Sunday, 29 January 2012 Interim coach Mohsin Khan believes Pakistan have the ability to become the best Test team in the world. Pakistan beat England by 72 runs in the second Test to hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the best-of-three series. "This team has the capacity to become the best," said Mohsin. "But we have to perform in other parts of the world." England need to beat Pakistan in the final Test of the series to be sure of retaining their number one spot in the rankings at the 1 April cut-off. ICC TEST RANKINGS England - 125 points South Africa - 117 India - 111 Australia - 111 Pakistan - 99 Sri Lanka - 98 West Indies 88 New Zealand - 83 Bangladesh - 8 Table correct as of 29 January Should England lose, they will finish on 118 points and South Africa will take over if they win all three Tests of their series against New Zealand in March. If England draw the final Test in Dubai they will end on 119 points but still lose their status at the top of the rankings, by 0.01 of a point, provided South Africa sweep the Black Caps. Pakistan are fifth but if they complete a 3-0 series win over England they will close the gap on India and Australia in third and fourth to only three points. "Our target should be to gradually come in the top three in both Tests and one-day, and then gradually go to world number one," added Mohsin, who was appointed temporary coach after Waqar Younis quit last September. "When I came as coach I knew that this team had talent in abundance so my first priority was to make them mentally and physically strong. "We won a lost match on Saturday, but the kind of belief and self-confidence this team has shown is great." Pakistan have won eight of 14 Tests under Mohsin, losing only once, and have been victorious in three series. India and Australia are level on 111 points but the former is ranked third by a fraction of a point despite losing the recent series between the two 4-0. Meanwhile, Mike Hussey has revealed that Australia regularly speak about reclaiming the number one Test ranking from England. Writing in a column for a Perth newspaper, the 36-year-old batsman said: "There's no hiding our ambition. "We want to reclaim the world number one mantle from England. How often do we talk about it? Every day." However, Hussey acknowledged that Australia have plenty of work to do if they are to build on the victory over India and bridge the gap to England. "This series has been a great stepping stone for us, but as captain Michael Clarke and coach Mickey Arthur drill into us every day - it's the beginning of a journey," he wrote. "India [were] ranked the number two Test team in the world so it's been a noteworthy performance. "But we know there's a huge improvement to be made if we're to conquer the old enemy next year in England." _58161559_iccnew.jpg The battle for the number one spot is becoming increasingly hard fought. .

no chance, it will take a consistence performance of 2-3 years while the other sides would have to be playing poor. he was probably asked that question so thats why he replied like that

Lol you'r laughing you A** off now but imagine us, when THE 3 BIG Pillars of our team retires ... OUCH! Not to mention Dhoni, Shewag and Zaheer is closing in to their retirement aswell. The team looks empty after. Even as we speak, we can't find a proper replacement of Ganguly yet! If you ask me, after all the drama Pakistan went through, they are still performing and that is a big surprise for me...

They lack the discipline to be number 1. The only way they can do it is with some super-talent which they don't have.
discipline don know talent yes in last 2 years they have been disciplined enough but talent wise they got a major hit cos of spot fixing but still this is remarkable performance beating no 1 side i want india to drop all oldies and then hope for best i think we can take nay team at home even w/o oldies hope sachin gets his 100 in cb series and then retires :P

india have replacements ready to go. their top players are old farts as well. ajmal is 34, misbah 37, younis 34. a whole bunch of other players they have are in their 30s. its not a young team. they havent debuted a good batsman in more than 10 years, so allah knows how they will replace misbah and younis. their batting lineup is abysmal. we are all complaining about india getting bowled out in the 200s in every game...those scores would be amazing by paki standards. their guys struggle to even make three figures on overseas tours. and no good spinners either to take the 34 year old chucker's place. their famous phaaaaaaaaasht bowlarsh are all trundling in at 130 kmph. they could have another good year or so, maybe make it as high as number 3 as all the other teams continue to rebuild. best team in the world? LOL.

now they are old 3 u gotta retire sooner or later i respect them but its not there permanent place in team they dont own it i support india first then players and i cant fkn see another white wash! if laxman would not ve played rohit could ve taken valuable experience but now he toured australia 2 times and still hasnt played a test match! and big 3 will play at home and before south africa series bye bye! and then another white wash u dont own places in team u deserve it.. tell me have they performed good enough to deserve a place in test team in last 2 away tours? and i can support which ever team i want got nothing to prove to u or any one. see my posts in our match threads before doubting wpke up everyday to see them give up w/o giving a fight and now i see naother team fight it out after problems i want my team to do so too !

We are far off getting anywhere close to #1. lacking an opener, keeper and quality quick. This is a steady team made up of hard working domestic performers. There is consistency in selection and we are seeing the results. Looking on the bench there is quality there. Wahab with all his inconsistency is a potential match winner. Umar Akmal has the ability and can be a good batsman. Raza hasan will replace Rehman over next 18 months. He is a real talent. Afaq rahim is a quality opener and will replace Taufeeq in near future.

I know you love India. I was just shocked at how you and others are disrespecting our famed middle order. There will never be another like it. Dravid got 3 centuries in eng tour. Tendulkar was awesome just a year ago and carries so much pressure. Lax is past it yet but still good for home. But we must replace him with one eye on future. Main problem is Gauti and Lax who are technically flawed and our general mentality. Need new coach man, it is a mental issue and perhaps motivation.
