achilles Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 so you expect them to incriminate themselves? No. I expect them to stop being "shocked". It is hypocritical and stupid.
ravishingravi Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 its a government's job to regulate. Corporation's primary and only concern is its bottom line. Morality plays no role in its decision making. So, it is okay to bribe as long as you dont get caught or by argument even if you get caught. Although I feel for the foreign cos.
achilles Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Exactly man. Lord Swaraj Paul was making a ludicrous point yesterday about how all foreign investors will be scared about investing in India after this. I mean, did Enron not know what they were doing when they entered India? Ditto with Vodafone, Telenor, Maxis and etisalat
ravishingravi Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 The scary part is that this "most" corrupt party is the history of this nation could be voted back in.
achilles Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Yep. Coz the opposition are even worse. Can someone enlighten me about the image of Dr. Subramaniyan Swamy in the world of politics?
ravishingravi Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 Yep. Coz the opposition are even worse. Can someone enlighten me about the image of Dr. Subramaniyan Swamy in the world of politics? He doesn't have any, although his alliance with BJP might be something that could work. He has his support base and it is growing
Khalpat Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Yep. Coz the opposition are even worse. I know by opposition you mean BJP. No other party in opposition has relevant presence, can you tell me how exactly are they worse? This attitude will bring the Congress again in power. And they will again do the same thing as they know they cant be defeated. Let us take an example do you really think Congress can ever loose a vote of confidence by one vote? Never they didnt loose in 1993 and didnt loose in 2007 even though they were in minority in both house. This thing is the base of corruption and it comes from highest level, no there is no morality previously I use to think how stupid of Vajpayee to loose by one vote but now I want to know the reason what exactly happened with Buta Singh fiasco at that time if it was morality to not include him then I know which party is worse.
achilles Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 He doesn't have any' date=' although his alliance with BJP might be something that could work. He has his support base and it is growing[/quote'] Hmm. If he joins politics full-time, maybe we'll have a good option to vote for.
surajmal Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 lungi man goes scott free. I didn't expect anything else. Hes too big a fish to get caught so easily.
asterix Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Judge Saini  The case should go to High court..
achilles Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 The pressure on Judge Saini must've been intense. Swamy rightly pointed out that it was a stupid judgement.
ravishingravi Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 I dont disagree with the judgement. I certainly dont think Swamy had a water tight case although I have a feeling that Chidu mama is a crook.
Clarke Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Exactly man. Lord Swaraj Paul was making a ludicrous point yesterday about how all foreign investors will be scared about investing in India after this. I mean, did Enron not know what they were doing when they entered India? You've got to be naive to not realize that this will affect international corporations considering investments in India at least in the short term. More often than not, corruption & bribes are part and parcel of deals & permits and you're not getting anywhere without those evils. So you go ahead and play by those unofficial rules until someone files a case. That someone just hit a reset button to the entire operations plan, there's no way any CEO will appreciate that when there's other emerging markets which offer a less corrupt atmosphere & less bureacracy to begin with. This does not mean the status quo has to continue, but removing the cancer of corruption will cause pain. What does Enron have to do with this scam ? Does every international corporation have an accounting department like that corp ?

Does every international corporation have an accounting department like that corp ? Good point. My assertion is as simple as this - If corps are aware about graft laws in lets say US and UK, why are they so "surprised" that India has them too? A reboot is always on the cards and there are things like this that you can't bribe your way out of. Agreed that corruption is the starting point for every activity in India. But then, if the companies are fighting for corruption, as a justified means to gain access and stay in control, I'm sorry, they must look elsewhere. And if corruption causes a loss of investment in India, I think we deserve the kick. Earn your way to the top, earn your entry into India. Don't bribe your way into India. Coz sooner or later, you will get caught.

Don't come and invest in India. And this para is the takeaway from the article for me- Finally — in case there was any doubt — the Indian government has made it abundantly clear that the political fallout of the Supreme Court judgment is far more important to it than the opinions of foreign telecom companies. The Congress Party is extremely vulnerable on the issue of corruption in state elections this year and national polls in 2014, and at a press conference today, Sibal’s main talking point was that his government is not to blame. He claimed that it was only following the rules set by an earlier government and that the only villain in the story is Raja, who “did not pay heed to the good advice of both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Finance Ministry.” Sibal did not mention that Singh and Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi rewarded Raja with a second term as telecom minister in 2009. Having hung up on the mobile phone industry, Singh’s government is now hoping that voters will still take their call. achilles Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Not sure the foreign companies commited a crime. Lot of them didnt even bid directly for the tender but bought it outright from the original bidders. To think that they didn't know how the licenses were acquired in the first place, would be akin to questioning their business acumen. Will a corporation invest billions of dollars in India without doing a proper check of what they are getting into? No.

Will a corporation invest billions of dollars in India without doing a proper check of what they are getting into? No. I am sure they checked and found that the bids were won fair and square according to the Government of India's telecom ministry. What more could they have asked for? Or are you saying they should have pulled out based simply on principle? I am not sure thats good business acumen.
