Wow this is terrible news :( Glad to hear that it is curable though, hopefully he can overcome this quickly and live a long and healthy life afterwards. He's such an entertaining cricketer with an enormous amount of skill, I'll never forget his six 6's in an over against England, that is a massive feat. Get well soon Yuvraj.

Mediastinal Seminoma http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/428603-treatment This is the condition Yuvi has. Since it is stage 1 he will be ok for now. Long time survival depends on the aggressiveness of the tumor and its spread that could have already happened. the choice of drug is bleomycin and cisplatin and or radiation. All these drugs are available in India comfortably, but for VIP's privacy is an issue. It looks like a mis diagnosis last june-Aug. The pathologist/doctor screwed up the diagnosis resulting in lost time Yuvi best wishes

Im well aware of what Medical Tourism is. Are you? FYI Its for middle class Americans etc that cant spend $50,000 USD to get treatment in the US so they come to India and get it done at a fraction of the price. Not because the treatment is superior to that in the US. In the case of Yuvraj he has millions of dollars but is getting treatment in the US as the facilities here are still not as top notch as they are in the US. (Why after 60 years this is still the case is anyone's mystery) This is also common with sport injuries as Sehwag just got back from England with his shoulder problem. Wish him a speedy recovery and for some improvements in the pathetic state of healthcare in India so that Indians need not go abroad for health issues.
I am sure Yuvraj's decision is more in the lines of trying to avoid media attention that just for better facilities. If Yuvi had been in India, would the news of his cancer been kept under wraps for so long? The guy just wants some privacy. Indian medical facilities is one of the best in the world and they have recenly performed some operations and cures which no one else would try

As a cancer drug researcher I can tell you guys this- It was in all likelihood a screw up. When the tumor is biopsied, the tissues are frozen in paraffin and then an expert pathologist looks at it under powerful microscopes and sees differences with normal cells and thus the cancer is identified and based on the ID, it is also confirmed that it is the primary tumor and not a metastasis. Along with MRI, CT scans etc, the secondary spread to lymph nodes, other organs is noted and then the stage of the cancer is arrived at. Mis-diagnosis occurs usually due to doctors not aggressive in putting time in ruling out rare cancers during microscopic analysis. A mis-diagnosed tumor when removed and when it comes back some of these doctors wake up. It has to do with no of patients and money making. There is no preemptive advice during treatment in India. 10 months is too long a time to sit with a cancer. In a way Yuvi is lucky that it has not spread. Let us all pray for his quick recovery. Cricket comes later.

Absolutely. The pathologist and the doctor needs to be shamed in public. The sab chalta hai attitude pervades even the medical community. For now dear yuvi is not out of woods. Let us pray for his speedy recovery. Admins: could you please change the title of the thread to "Yuvraj has a curable cancer" or Yuvraj diagnosed with curable cancerous tumor"....... Thanks
