Why exactly is Tendulkar in the odi team???

Why exactly is Tendulkar in the odi team???

  1. 1.

    • To "guide" youngsters like Jadeja in the team
      9
    • To get his 100th 100 as he knows he's gonna struggle in Tests
      47
    • He wanted to have a longer vacation in Aus so he came "back" for Aussie tri series
      1
    • Can't say. It's a head scratcher and I have no clue

Sachin does not play for India. India plays for Sachin.
I insist on Sanjay Manjrekar & Ravi Shashtri aka Cheerleader co-Presidents, to utter that line on live TV and be damn proud of it.

Actually, even though my first preference would be for him to retire and make way for players likely to be around for the next World Cup, this is not as bad as him sitting out selectively from ODI series and preferring IPL. If he wants to play ODIs, he should be playing the vast majority of them rather than resting from most and coming back as and when he feels like it. That's the norm for all players around the world and should be the same for Tendulkar, more so given his performance has been nothing to write home about anyways.

This WILL probably be his last ODI series given the fact that he doesnt play bilateral odi series.
He was going to play the ODI series in England last year before getting injured on the eve of the series. Sheer picking and choosing whenever he likes

Could this be the reason' date=' we could see the "happiness ambassador" playing in ODIs for another 2 years? :hmmm:[/quote'] Applying your lahori logic, you're left with no option but another decade more of Tendulkar torture :giggle: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/series-tournaments/sachin-tendulkar--an-indian-icon/top-stories/Tendulkar-brand-value-remains-intact-despite-retirement-call/articleshow/12058315.cms "From commercial point of view, most of the associations he has, are long running - at least of a decade," WSG country head and senior vice-president Harish Krishnamachar said

That's what Sachin worshippers said before Asia Cup squad was selected, i.e. Sachin won't play in Asia Cup and he only played the tri-series in Aus coz it was a "tough" series. Now what? It's clear SRT picks and chooses his games & series and sees an opportunity to get a 100 on flat pattas against the likes of BangBros :haha: Seriously can anyone justify SRT selected and Sehwag rested? Now we don't even have one explosive opener in the squad and on flat pattas we need Sehwag. Remember his batting on B'desh pattas as he showed in hammering 170+ against Bangbros in the WC opener, or his last game in subcontinent where he hammered a double hundred. P.S. - All the games India have won in the tri-series have come when Sehwag was in the team and not "rested"

Probably they didn't want another "ordinary" comment from Viru :cantstop:

Not playing Sehwag in B'desh is a travesty when his record on flat pattas is out of the world, and considering the fact India has played only those matches this tri-series when Sehwag wasn't "rested"

So are you saying Asia Cup is not an important ODI series? It's not that he skipped last Asia Cup, missed it due to a groin injury. btw he's yet to score an ODI ton against Bangbros :)

Considering the fact that India won a T20 WC final when Jogi was playing, India should call him up whenever we play a must win T20 match. Or better still considering the fact that not only did India win the T20 WC final but also the World Cup final when Sreesanth was playing, India should always play him. :hysterical:

At this moment it is irrelevant for me even if they win Asia cup. it will only further the truth we are first rate FTBs nothing more.

Itne bade bhakt aur itna bhi nahin pata, or are you trolling just to make a non existent point? Now I'll wait for reasons why the 2012 Asia cup is more important than the 2010 Asia cup. :hmmm: http://www.espncricinfo.com/asia2010/content/story/462277.html
The BCCI has accepted Sachin Tendulkar's request to be rested for the Asia Cup and has not included him in the squad for the tournament in Sri Lanka.

Selecting a team for a tourney on flat pattas in B'desh where we play likes of Pakis whose attack is spin based, you don't drop one of the most dangerous and explosive batsmen on these sort of tracks. His last game in B'desh in WC opener was 170 odd and his last game in subcontinent was a double hundred. B'desh pitches usually result in run fests and an explosive opener is a must have, especially when teams like Pakis may open with a containing spinner such as Hafeez or with Gul who was taken apart by Sehwag last time they faced off. It's a major faux pas by the selectors who should have rested Sehwag for bilateral series later on but should have played him in Asia Cup. With no Yuvi and Sehwag we don't have enough firepower in the lineup on flat pitches.

Doesn't matter but I defo don't India to lose to Pakis. We have a better team and should make the most of it. Sehwag in there would have been a huge dampener for Pakis who now will be eyeing our batting lineup without Sehwag and chuckling knowing fully well they can contain SRT by bowling Hafeez first up.
