yoda Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Dad's no better than his daughter. Keep your family issues private please.
akshayxyz Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 An excellent comment copied from reddit. I'm all for "clearly you don't appreciate your current comforts", but after raising teens I also think these outbursts and rants are a chance to have dialogue. Demonizing her for being selfish (which all teens are) and destroying property to prove a point are all grossly inappropriate reactions. From what she wrote, it does sound like she's a little more than spoiled, but discipline is teaching, not punishing. Discipline (self and parental) is about opportunities to educate and communicate, punishment is about proving a point. If she's spoiled, that's his own doing, and admitting his mistake in parenting her that way, then giving her opportunities to learn better skills...THAT would be teaching her. Donating her laptop to a women's shelter or mentoring program, and having her work off community service with less fortunate people would seem more of a positive lesson. Instead, it seems to be more petty revenge than opportunity to teach.
f.b.m Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 If people treated their kids atleast as well as their pets, the world would be a much better place..
Clarke Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 He's surely alienated her for a long long time.
