try saying this to a westerner (of canadian/US/UK origin): "There was no difference between Imperial England and Hitler". There reaction is sigworthy.
Yep. When it happens to others, it is black and white. When it happens to yourself, it is different shades of grey.

Funny thing is British policies resulted in deaths a magnitude greater (in India alone) than Hitler's actions. But you will never find that fact in history books.
And then many of us don't really possess the courage to call a spade a spade too. British were great coz they brought us Railways and abolished Sati. So we should forgive them for looting our mother. But ofcourse, Hitler only did bad things his entire life. Not a single good thing EVER. Scumbag made the poor Europeans bleed. :((

People that should be angry with Hitler are Germans themselves. If not for him, Germany would have been the sole superpower for the last 70 years.

And we as outsiders know only what we are told. And our sources are largely one-sided. I'm sure many of us had no idea about the 6 things mentioned in the OP, before Hari posted them. And that says a lot about balance. The worst part is, we believe our sources blindly and fail to see the other side of the coin. Many things that Hitler did are shocking. Disgusting is the word. But so was the Hiroshima bombing. Yet, we look at the bigger picture for America. Why not for Hitler?

Its the biggest psy-ops in history - the way they are making him look like satan's incarnation. When I was in high school, I remember the project we had to share something about any great world leader and what made him 'great' in our words. The group that presented on Hitler were stopped from doing so before they even got to the reasons as to why they thought he was 'great' , simply asked to walk away and come back the following day with a different leader. In India - such an open society where it is considered OK to question and debate the existence of God, but not OK to openly discuss the other side of Hitler ? ...

Oliver stone was supposed to be working on a documentary (I don't know if he is anymore) highlighting Treaty of Versailles (as many neutral observers already say), among other things, being the primary cause for WW2. But as soon as he announced his intentions, fox news and company started calling him anti American and all sort of petty nicknames (not that he cares I'm sure). But it would be interesting if he completes the project what the response is going to be like in the anglo world.

Exactly. We as a society are too caught up in the awe of the Western world, who are never wrong. Their enemies are our enemies, their friends are our friends. Their ideals are our ideals. When you have the courage to speak otherwise and point out a flaw, you are wrong. The herd is never wrong. We think it is not cool to point out that Hiroshima was just as bad as the slaughter of Jews. In that case, we want a moderation of opinion, saying "oh, error in judgment". But not in the case of Hitler? America is allowed to make a mistake because it is America and Hitler is not, coz he's Hitler? I once again state, I have no love for what Hitler did, as much as I don't for what the Yankies did. I want the same principle being applied to both scenarios or to none at all. Like the American have done a lot of good things, so has Hitler. I don't know what part of a person will die if he simply accepts that.

I would argue that the Nazi regimes to actually exterminate a race of people. Rounding them up, putting them in camps and gassing them is worse than what the British did in India. The British Empire did some really bad things in India but what Hitler did was pure evil. Even when he knew he was going to lose World War 2 and had a choice of abandoning the concentration camps to focus on fighting the allies, Hitler chose to continue the mass extermination in concentration camps. That is how much he hated Jews.

Hiroshima was terrible and caused mass devastation but it was a reaction to the Japanese attacking them. Whether the US should have gone as far as to use an atomic bomb is another question.

That is easy. History more often than not, is told through the eyes of the victor.

Living space or Lebensraum was core to his foreign policy. A lot of article will somehow induce racism in it. But to me that term it itself never sounded like supremacist, kill all and so on. As i said. Hitler has problems which were local. If given a choice neither Africans nor Asians whould have tried Begani Shadi mein Abdulla Diwana
When you know about Lebensraum, why did also say above that Poland was responsible for starting the war ? Starting with the Hossbach conference of 1937, the annexation of Austria, Czechoslovakia and the invasion of Poland and the rest was a part of a deliberate policy of Hitler. For this used he used every tactic, cheap or otherwise, in the book.

And hence war started to save the remaining ones. But Truman was forced to wipe out two cities because he wanted to end the war. It was to bring the peace. Then he decided that I only hold the right to keep it (Which means, dont you dare to disagree, because I can obliterate your entire race from the face of the earth). And Yeah His plans to abandon Nuclear development was jeopardized by Russians.

.. ... Very interesting. I have no special love for Churchill. However I do have trouble adding our independence to Hitler's good deeds. The chain of causation is only visible in hindsight and it becomes ever more brittle when you consider that Hitler had no intent to bring about our independence. And moreover, hypothetically, if Germany were our colonial masters Hitler would not have regarded Indians as being much above animals himself. And if Hitler had his way, he would have made short work of all non-blonde people right after he was done with the Jews. Under German rule we would have been exterminated had not Hitler faced opposition. Now do you still feel indebted in some way to Hitler?
Now you had extrapolated something in this post. You presumed Hitler was biggest evil among humanity in the middle of last century. That was the reason I was deliberately discussing Hitlers characters vis a vis rest of the contemporary leaders before coming on to your point. You had put forward Hitler as a ghastly character who would have made our life most miserable had he won the war. So he would have to done few thing here. 1. Beat and subjugate US,UK,Russia 2. And after beating them He should have heart and strength to beat its powerfull allies like Japan too 3. Then It should subjugate all the colonies as well and world would have come under Hitler ideology Germans. Post 14 and 18 on the thread are based on facts. Finally, For a moment i assume that he was all that evil, but just because he was Hitler so i should forget the basic logic of Enemy of my enemy is my friend?

Hitler is one of the most incredible world leaders we have seen. Ofcourse people don't want to accept that because it is going against the mass opinion. But the guy practically made a messy post-WWI Germany, a world beater by WWII. The guy was a genius and the British and Americans cheated to beat him.

What some of these 'Indians' don't get is that a hatred against a crimnal is proportional to how it affects you at a personal level. One would feel extremely angry against a drunken driver who killed their kin in an accident than against a serial killer in another country. They are both bad, but who do you hate the most? Britain is no angel and is no better than Hitler in my eyes.
+1.. blessing in disguise for india

The Nazis Didn't Just Kill People! Hitler: Great evil balanced by great good? Besides the events that everyone since childhood has been told of, particularly the story of the holocaust, there were many astonishing acts carried about by Hitler government that few are familiar with. The following are six good achievements made by the Third Reich that radically set the stage for future advancement in many particular fields, sciences, and social norms. 1.) No smoking! Hitler was vehemently anti-smoking. The Nazi were also the first to link smoking to the contraction of cancer. 2.) The Hitler Mobile? Hitler wanted every German, whether rich or poor, to have a car. And thus he invented the Volkswagen (People's Car) 3.) Spare some change? Before coming into power in 1933, mass unemployment crippled the German economy. The global depression of that era made it so that a wheelbarrow full of money couldn't even buy a loaf of bread. When the Nazis stormed on to the scene, they put everyone back to work. Over night, the wheels of the economy were turning once more and money was flowing back into people's pockets. 4.) Its his way or the highway! Every time you hop on to the freeway to get somewhere faster than taking all the back roads, thank Hitler. Thats right, Hitler invented the highway system (ŽÅutobahn in German). 5.) This little light of mine gunna let it shine! The Olympic torch relay ceremony was Hitler's idea for the 1936 Berlin Olympic games. We haven't since gotten rid of the ceremony. 6.) Save the whales! Hitler and many top Nazis were environmentalist types who cared deeply about animals and their rights. The Nazis were among the first to put in place laws protecting animals from abuse. Aside from the above examples are many countless others wherein Hitler used his extraordinary power as dictator to push both good and evil policies. Again, its important to realize the Yin yang concept as alluded to prior when attempting to make sense of such information concerning the person and achievements of Adolf Hitler.
Trust me, if he wasn't the reason for a genocide, I would've appreciated that. :headshake:
