He outclassed Anil Kapoor in Deewana Mastana. Sanjay Dutt was no match for him in Haseena Maan Jayegi Even Big B had to take the back seat in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Salman Khan played second fiddle in Partner. Even Amir Khan in his interview once said he loved Govinda's comedy and he often watches Govinda movies when he is Free.. These days i agree he is doing some crap movies. Janaab, Don't write off Govinda's early films. I found him ok in Naseeb.He at least tried various types of roles. He started off as an action hero. He wasn't very good at it. Slowly he gyrated (pun intended) towards action-comic characters and finally with David Dhawan did only comic roles. That was his true calling. Contrast that with Dilip Kumar who did the same type of landlord-farmer /straight jacket cop/mere usool meri shaan roles in a monotonous masterji voice for his entire life. I feel like pulling my hair out when people say that SRK tries to imitate Dilip Kumar. Far from it. Dilip Kumar is a poor man's SRK. :acute:

What a movie Deewana Mastaana was, Anil Kapoor was at his best as Munna, but Govinda as Bunnu was just too good. Some of the duels between AK and G were absolutely hilarious. AK is a very good actor in comedy and it's no mean achievement to outperform him. Similarly, AB has done some legendary comedy movies, but he was no match of Govinda in Bade Miya Chhote Miya. Since we are talking about Govinda and his unmatched comic timing and dance, I should mention that I am a fan of his nephew Krishna who has been performing on Comedy Circus on Sony for quite some time now. He seems to have a gift in comedy.

He always came across as someone who would be willing to be in the backdrop and not in the limelight' date=' almost uncomfortable up there. Which is why many of his movies dont always spring up to mind. But he had some good movies. Rahul Rawail directed him well in [b']Arjun and Dacait in his early days. He did wear a bit of comedy hat in Chaalbaaz but mostly he was always the macho hero as in Lootere (loved it), Darr (not much to like about it really), Sunny (good movie), Border (good) and of course Rajumar Santoshi's movies built around him. With his personality he was always going to be either a goonda, or a Police Inspector, or a Police Inspector who had turned goonda. To me he was always a man's man. Watch him in Jeet against Salman Khan and you would see how small(physically) SK looks opposite to SD. SK needs to strip to show his physique, SD needs to lift his eyebrow, raise a fist and you know exactly who you want in your corner. :winky: A very good post Lurker. A reluctant actor is the best phrase to describe him. His inability to dance became a bit of a joke, but that should not be held against him. His screen presence was brilliant. His personality was superb and his dialog delivery was effective.

She was very average. Average actress, average looker, average dancer - nothing to justify the number of movies she did those days. Her acting was the same in all her roles. Similar was Mumtaz who, for years, remained the inspiration for the hundreds of "extras" that struggle in Mumbai everyday.
