Only last week I read that Indians are the biggest depositors in Switzerland. If ever there was a country that needed invading it is the bastard neutralist Switzerland. Laundering of war money, blood diamonds, safety house for blood-stained despots, greasy transactions for weapon payments, etc. Forget it, not even the US could budge the Swiss to release records of US citizens banking in Switzerland.

Regardless of that, the Swiss just won't allow it. A better solution is to follow the UK example of a treaty with Switzerland to tax UK depositors in Swiss Accounts, UK now gets nearly $8billion in tax receipts annually from UK depositors in Switzerland. Germany has one too, not sure about US. But not surprisingly the Swiss rejected such a proposal by India, for obvious reasons.

Russia-$610 billion China-$213 billion UK-$210 billion (UK gets $8 billion annually taxing the gains on these deposits) Ukraine-$140 billion Rest of the world-$300 billion If an agreement was reached to tax Indian deposit interest, by simple maths: If Swiss rates are 3%, then deposits will accumulate $1.891 Trillion x 0.03 = $57 billion. IF Indian government applies 50% tax rate on interest income, then $57 billion x 0.50 = $28 billion. The people of India are missing out on a minimum of $28 Billion tax receipts ANNUALLY!. The government would probably get an additional 30-50% taking into account cumulative interest payments, capital gains, etc. If ever there was a travesty, it's the hypocrisy of Western institutions who decry poverty in countries like India but happy to horde it's money for their personal gain. The Swiss are the Devils in play.

Spending more money on them is only going to increase corruption. India should do what they did in the early 90s and deregulate their economy even more and encourage more foreign investment. Thats the only way to generate wealth into a country, not through corrupt government social programs that indias been trying for 60 years

Everybody knows that many indians have been lifted out of poverty in India because of the deregulation policies in the 90s yet no party in india really wants deregulate and decentralize even further.

Too many mouths to feed and not enough to go around. Indian people may not like to talk about sex or even do it with the frequency of westerners but we sure like to engage in unprotected sex.
