ViruRulez Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Interesting results today but I do not accept today's results as rejection of corruption by Indian masses which seems to be the slogan of the media. And I am stating that on many accounts. The only case which seems to be a clear case of rejection of corruption is in Goa where the IIT Graduate and secular leader was selected over the mining lobby of Congress, NCP and other parties. Everywhere else I see trends to indicate it was not clear case of vote against corruption. 1) UP: If BSP is not the best of parties then SP is not the most authentic party with any cleaner image either. Akhilesh seems a lot more sensible compared to the older SP organization but today itself a boy was killed in celebration firing by SP workers and then they also beat up media persons at another place. So, not sure SP is any better in terms of governance or corruption. It is interesting that Congress has lost traditional UP bastions Rae Bareili and Amethi and BJP has lost its bastion Ayodhya. But then the well known goon Raja Bhaiya has even won on an Independent ticket. So, not sure it is all about good governance and anti-corruption only. 2) Uttarakhand: While I agree that reinstating BC Khanduri might have somewhat helped BJP in not being swept away in Uttarakhand and bring it so close. But then if that was the case then why did Khanduri himself lose whereas he was a clean and corruption free person. BJP as a whole was corrupt and the previous CM was seen to be corrupt. But the previous CM perceived to be corrupt won whereas Khanduri lost which raises the doubt of whether it was a vote against corruption and for good governance. Having said that, it seems neither would become CM as I feel Congress will form govt. as BSP/Mayawati has 3 seats I suppose and she would rather join Congress than BJP which might further dent her party's prospects. And even with the 3 from BSP Congress would make to the 35 figure majority mark and would not need the support of independents. 3) Punjab: I am not too convinced about the vote against corruption factor in Punjab either. Both SAD+BJP and Congress were seen as somewhat corrupt parties in Punjab. Instead, there was a new party formed named People's Party of Punjab by the previous finance minister of the SAD+BJP govt. Manpreet Singh Badal who left the party over differences in the way SAD+BJP was going including corruption issues. Manpreet is regarded as a honest, well-educated and clean politician without any negative images at all. In fact, he does not even take govt. body guards nor does he used the red light/siren in his vehicles. He is an honest and clean politician but his party even failed to win a single seat in Punjab. In fact, he even lost his own seat which he had held since 1995 as a candidate of SAD. So, not sure it is anti-corruption and good governance in Punjab too. So, not sure if it is as big a victory of anti corruption as it is being presumed to be by the media. I would like it to have been such a scenario but all these scenarios are pointing elsewhere. It was anti Congress somewhat without doubt but anti-corruption is something I am definitely not sure. NB: BTW one of the only few occasions when my prediction in an election went wrong. I had predicted Mayawati to retain power which did not happen though she did well in the Western UP belt near Delhi where she concentrated on development which I was referring to. In fact, she even won in the constituencies with the villages with the land allocation problem. But it seems she rejected mainland UP where she lost badly. However, even after the significantly lesser number of seats, her vote share has reduced only 3% or so and not something massive. So, it might have been close fight in most constituencies across UP I suppose and not outright rejection.
Sachin=GOD Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 A non MLA can become CM' date=' but he has to get elected within 6 months or resign.[/quote'] thats what I said - if he has to become CM then eventually he will have to become an MLA but in such a close election I don't think BJP will take a chance of vacating a so as to let him fight the election because he has already lost one election so there's a chance that he may lose another one and this can jeopardize BJP's chances of having a majority. Congress has a history of losing Amethi. Its no big deal. The people there only vote for Congress if Gandhi family is contesting. Lallu Singh losing in Ayodhya is a big deal because he had done a lot of work there and had a good reputation. Sadly he was swept away in the SP wave.

True.....Khanduri has passed the LokPal Bill.Corrupt slimeball Nishank would be the first target...Khanduri would have made sure of that.I won't be surprised if this was done with an understanding and help of with the equally corrupt congress.
