A disgraceful moment in Indian cricketing history

Doesn't that answer your whole point.....May be Hayden' date='Ponting,Gilchrist,Martyn etc etc who probably played the game were also selfish for setting up such a low total against Bang Bros[/quote'] Did anyone of them potter around in search for a hundred or some personal milestone in the PP and slog overs at a strike rate of 50 with 8-9 wickets in hand? If you answer that, it will answer a lot of questions to you not just mine or your own.

Like what mate? Give me top 3 reasons why we lost to BD. Atleast then you can not claim the "attackers" are not giving you (and Sachin) a free hearing.
1. Sachins batting in the power plays set up a so so total. Needed 50 runs more 2. Our bowling attack 3. Fielding

Even on websites, countrymen are vocal posting comments like below. So sachinistas cant blame few people here for getting their thinking wrong. Its definitely A LOT of people who think along the same lines. Its getting to that stage even and some may not believe it, that even the dressing room celebrates when sachin gets out. Hope it doesnt reach to that stage when the opposition doesnt want to get him out at all. http://cricketnext.in.com/news/mixed-emotions-in-pak-after-indias-exit/64590-13.html

from ramamruth39 at 11:09, Mar 21, 2012 There's no bemoaning the fact, for the History cannot be REDONE !! Accept that Bangla Desh is/was a much better team on a given day like when played against India--rather yday against the Lankans !! THIS SORRY TALE ENSUED JUST BCOS OF THE SELFISH SACHIN TENDULKAR, WHO IN HIS ANXIETY, TO HIT A "Mahashathak", allowed so many dot balls and denying the Team India, a WIN and even a bonus point .. The avid cricket-fans the world over cannot forgive him for this silly, shelfish misdeed .. EVER !!

Didn't we lose early wicket in this game as well.... Besides the point....I am no way in denial that the 100 did not play on his mind, but it does seem far-fetched saying that he single-handedly lost the game and was the main culprit for the loss.He still had a decent strike rate at the end of his innings and why not give credit to the Bangla bowlers too....It's not like Virat Kohli played a free-flowing innings at the other end. Also what is the guarantee that had India scored 20 more runs...Bangla would have paced their innings appropriately to acheive it against our Super-bowlers??? The way I look at it Bang played out of their skins....they won...do they deserve to be in the final....debatable.....Stop holding one guy accountable.

What factors am I ignorant to? The bowling? Don't you think I know that a bowling attack of Pathan, Dinda, Praveen, and Ashwin is decidedly mediocre, if I am being generous with the use of the word mediocre here? Isn't that all the more reason for the batsmen to try and give them as much to defend as possible without pursuing their own goals? Upsets happen in cricket and a worse Bangladesh team was able to chase down 250 against McGrath, Gillespie, Kasprovizc, and Hogg - one of the best ODI bowling line ups outside the subcontinent. When the stakes are high the risks are evaluated not on the basis of the average shortfall, but on the basis of an unlikely, but potentially disastrous scenario. And as it turns out the disastrous scenario did materialize.
So you are aware of bowling being sh!t, from the way people have been going the sole blame should be laid on him. I can understand the batting knowing the bowling is poor and to compensate for it, but WHY should it be the case every time. We still should've won the game, but the bowling was beyond atrocious. I don't believe its too much to expect INTERNATIONAL bowlers to be able to pitch the damn ball. Should we give Bangladesh no credit either? From the way I see it, no matter what Tendulkar did, there will be some reason for people to bring him down. I'm glad he got the monkey off his back. Its a shame it contributed to a loss vs Bangladesh, but its done. (And no I'm not putting an individual record ahead of the team win)
:haha::haha: they never brought down 350 run target to 290 run target single handedly like sachin :cantstop::cantstop:
Hindsight is a beautiful thing. Kohli and Tendulkar felt the ball wasn't coming on as much. But hey what do they know

Agree. Add to that Bangladesh are there trying to win the game as well. Not there to see Indian superstars

But nobody ever denied Indian bowling being cr@p. In fact I had mentioned in my thread that our bowling is probably worse than some of the associate nations as well (Ireland and Afghanistan). It was always known that bowling is our Achilles heel and even in the World Cup we won the tourney coz of our batsmen as our bowling was cr@p there as well for the most part other than Zaheer. There never were any expectations from our bowling and that's why Sachin's "slow go" has been criticized, i.e., knowing our bowling's limitations it was all the more important for our batsmen to ensure we put up as big a total as possible.

Why should the batting compensate for the bowling anyway? If they're going to be that ineffective and nothing is to be expected of them, why not just playing XI batsmen? Seriously why do we play bowlers if the batsmen are going to have to work extra hard every time|?

While we are at it, why not have a real-time internet polling for every match/ball.. how much to target, when to defend/accelerate..., and at the end of the day whether to get daily-wages at all.

But we are not asking batting to over-compensate. I never said "they should have scored 350+". But at the same time you do expect to put the team to score as many as they can. When we were 200 odd for 1 with overs to go and serious batting power in the dressing room I was looking at a score of 320. It's one thing had they collapsed while going for the runs and ended up scoring 288, but it's another thing when we didn't try to accelerate the way we should have with 9 wkts in hand and that too against a team like B'desh which doesn't even have any bowlers like Ajmal or Malinga whom you are trying to see off and then score against the others. Scoring as many as you can doesn't mean you are working extra-hard. You are in the team to score so that the team can score maximum possible runs. I don'tthink the attitude of the batsmen should be "Hmm let's see, we have scored 300 and that should be good enough. Let those bowlers earn the paycheck as well by defending this total". The point is that when you are in a position to dominate and bat your team out of the game do so. This is what all great teams do - finish off your opponents when they have the chance. We scored 413 against Bermuda in 2007 WC and surely we didn't need that many against them as i am sure we could have defended even 313 or less against Bermuda but that doesn't mean the batsmen give up and are sated with the total. Cricket, like sports, is full of uncertainties and upsets. Who could have seen the 438-434 game coming after Aus scored 434? I mean it was the 1st time any team crossed 400 in odis, what were the odds of the highest score ever to be overtaken the very next innings? As a fan I expect my team and all players in my team to give their best and do the best they can for the team. That's what I ask for as I have seen plenty of defeats over years and its not that I blame for every loss that has happened since 90s.

Yes he had to say "we play to win" LPAO! :hysterical: and then he meant - Don't put extra pressure on Kohli i.e don't put the curse of India not making it to the finals on Kohli when he scores a century like him for a match loss.

We still scored about 86 runs in last 10 overs, which is not under-performance by any standards (Given that overall run rate until 40th over was just 5 and we lost a set batsman in first over of powerplay) esp when we lost 3 wickets in quick succession, and two overs yielded less than run a ball. Sachin could have squeezed in another 10 runs at max, and if we had not lost Kohli, he would have compensated for his slow batting as well. In the end it was about 10 or so runs less from Sachin, and 10-15 or so from rest of the team (due to wickets at crucial times).

That kind of vindicates, you have to play as per the pitch and conditions, and not give too much importance to past records or opponent's perceived strength (they are also their to win btw). Old records/numbers are decent indicators, but eventually the conditions in the middle deserve more respect.

You and I may have been reading different sites. It may have started stating that the innings was selfish, but its gone WAY past that Tendulkar compared to Mother Teresa :giggle::giggle: Mother Teresa is a piece of **** compared to Tendulkar - BTW I stopped reading there
:omg: You are sick. Get well soon. Sachin would be ashamed if he will get to know that he has fans like you. By the way, aint nobody moderate this site?

Moderators do their job plenty fine. No need to be overly sensitive about everything. A comment was made, the person criticized. Chapter closed. Move on

I apologize for the nasty comments towards Mother Teresa, but I honestly believe she wasn't a saint. She did good, but had ulterior motives, kinda like Sachin, some would have you believe. Anyways if you're really curious why it was said, just do a quick google search on "Mother teresa criticism" or something along those lines.

^^ Just watch Hell's Angel - a documentary on MT by Christopher Hitchens which basically exposes how much of a fanatic she was in addition to her cosying up to some of the biggest international frauds and thugs of her time.
