Even i know that these guys are greats and can win matches,but kohli as of now is in a different league,so im asking is virat a once in a generation batting talent around whom the batting would revolve or will there be others to reach his level. Raina and Rohit have potential but they have yet to realise it like kohli has.

I think there will be others who'll play equally important roles. He's an excellent player but there are some others who may reach his level if they fulfill their talent.

That is true. Not all can realise their potential at the same rate Kohli has though. When we recignise exceptional talents we need to give ample opportunities though. But yes if we're looking at someone who can get into the 12,000+ runs club and be considered in the Sachin-Ponting-Lara club...I would say its too late for Rohit, let alone Raina. Only Kohli has the chance.

Exceptional talents don't take far too much time to establish. Dhoni didn't take long to get going in ODIs, Same way Kohli.. Yuvi had two phases.. first phase was very inconsistent. Second phase was awesome.

Wow, have the 90s really scarred us so bad that we can't imagine any other model apart from a 'one-man saviour' of the team? We have a bunch of youngsters who have been gradually proving their mettle and actually making the dreaded exit of SRT, Dravid, VVS and eventually Sehwag a bit of a non-issue. All of them have shown the ability to walk into a tight situation and stay the course, from Gambhir to Raina and Kohli and Dhoni and Yuvi of course, and hopefully Rohit will follow suit. Here's to a whole new Team India where every member pulls their weight and then some. This is the kind of team we envied when McGrath, Warne, Ponting and Gilly were at their peak.

IF yes, I would argue that Raina has achieved considerably more than UV had at the same stage of their careers (25 years of age) and I'm sure Rohit will do the same within a year. I thought we were talking about Test cricket, tbh. And you can't say that Raina hasn't shown patches of brilliance either ( averaging 45+ on the WI tour, the 74 at Lord's). Rohit who doesn't have any glaring weakness unlike Raina will do better,I'm sure.

Did you watch the ODI's in England? Specifically the 4th ODI. See how the likes of Finn were pasted around by Raina in the company of MSD.

As good as Kohli is compared to others in the team...I cannot see this team becoming a one-man show like int he 90's. The others are just too talented for that to happen imo. I mean c'mon even Yusuf Pathan managed to be the highest scorer in the ODI series in SA.

I don't think that will happen. Gambhir will definitely be at par with Kohli - if not in mesmerizing innings with joyous strokeplay, but in sticking around and making sure he is there to see the match till the end or thereabouts. Yuvi is a proven factor as well. And as long as we see potential in both the new bowlers and people like Rohit, why would we even think that our team will be dependent on the performance of one player?

Not having weaknesses will not guarantee you a successful international career. Even with weaknesses players have had a long career. Azhar was equally ugly against short balls.
