^ This. Dhoni, Yuvi and Gambhir are all around 30, so we should be good for the next 3-4 years until new talent arrives. There are lots of promising batsmen waiting in the wings or in the domestic circuit. It's the effing bowling that's the major worry.

But experts only talk about Raina to be dropped first from the team saying he cannot play pace, but if he cannot play pace how could he be the second highest run getter in ODIs in England. After CB series and during CB series, most of the experts had written bundle of articles and talked on talk shows calling for Raina's exclusion and bring Tiwary, Rahane, and others, but they forgot Raina plays at 5-6 and there is no better batsman right now who can play a better role than Raina at 5-6. He is the only batsman who can start hitting from ball one.

I think the question should be who else is capable of playing the long innings which is needed in these kind of chases- I think Dhobi,Gambhir are the best bet.Raina,YK are more of big hitters down the order. Yuvi when he comes back will add serious muscle to the lineup.Rohit needs to prove he can do this more consistently.

The thing with Raina is he is equally capable of playing anywhere between #4 and #7. And often he ends up paying for that because not a lot of players are as flexible as him. Another point to consider is that there was a period just before Kohli established himself that he averaged almost 44 for a period of 18 months coming in at #6. That went entirely unnoticed by the media and fans. However inspite of showing such consistency there were calls to axe him as soon as he hit a lean patch. Also with Kohli now in such rich form,coupled with Rohit too batting like a stud after the WC, he hardly gets opportunities anymore to play a long innings (its not anybody's fault though). So we need to keep these things in mind. At one point it got sooo bad people were contemplating(on cricinfo) whether to play Jadeja or Raina!!! Actually even after the WC QF win against Australia, Sharda Ugra (sp?) in her post-match article called him a "bits-and-pieces" player. Pretty insulting, I thought, for a guy who had smashed Lee straight back over his head.

Raina and Rohit have potential but they have yet to realise it like kohli has.

As for the original question: Rahane,Kohli, Rohit, Raina are four batsmen from the younger generation that can win games on their own imo. Actually its interesting comparing the team we're going to have 2 years down the line and the one from our golden era. I'm pretty sure that batting-wise in ODIs the younger lot would be superior. And bowling too if get our selections right.
