Lara played much fewer games than SRT and still maintained a lower average. SRT played many more games but wasn't dismissed by anyone as many times as Lara was by McGrath. The great Lara performs against the best' date= when their key players are injured :giggle:

I remember seeing an article on Cricinfo that only Ijaz Ahmed and Saeed Anwar averaged more out of the batsman who had played more than 7 innings against McGrath in tests. However, i saw another article that said VVS also had a good average in games played against McGrath and KP probably has an average in the high 40's as he played McGrath pretty well compared to most.

that was not my intention .. ii just wanted to show.. that these stats vs bowlers are misleading they might be gr8 but some batsmen find some other mediocre bowlers more difficult -__- not saying anderson is mediocre but it owuld be safe to see he is no mcgrath or even steyn :cantstop:

In 2005 KP scored 2 half centuries and 158 in the 3 matches McGrath played. McGrath got him out once. I'm not saying he dominated McGrath but he played him far better than post i have seen. I think it's because he likes to move across his stumps and whip the ball to the leg side.

Michael Vaughan is one of the best i have seen against Mcgrath.. that too when Mcgrath was at his peak. I have notice.. slightly taller guys with upright stance negotiated him better. Laxman, Vaughan, KP.

^ Vaughan had a purple patch but wasn't all that I felt. He was very good in one series down under but overall he wasn't up there with the best English. I don't know if stats favour all this but I thought Gower, Gooch and Thorpe were much better.

Lara too have some holes in his CV. You take out his two useless innings of 375 and 400' date= his average would not even reach 50, a most acceptable qualification mark for being an ATG batsman. Lara's away batting average is 20% less than his home batting average. You can find many more if you are good in quant/math.

SRT way ahead of Lara. Lara only trumped SRT in one thing - having monumental innings like 375 and 400* which anyways didn't help his team much. SRt was by far more consistent, and in odis it's not even a contest. Overall SRT wins by the proverbial mile.

I am talking about all non-Indian forums too. Even in aussie forums, Ponting is always compared with Sachin not Lara, even before Lara retired. Sachin vs XYZ is a staple of all forums. Even in PP I never saw one thread comparing Inzi with Lara, though Inzi with Sachin was always there. and believe me, even in the late 90s, early 2000, it was Sachin against XYZ in all news channels, even British and Aussie ones BTW even for Indians why not Dravid vs XYZ and Laxman vs XYZ? After all, they are better players and match winners

I never did understand this point about average against a particular bowler. If no other bowler in the match bowled on that day, it would make sense. Even for Sachin, he struggled against Gillespie more than Mcgrath and Gillespie got him out more times. But according to your average caulculation, just because McGrath was present in those matches, Sachin's low average was caused by mcGrath and not Gillespie Similary, I have seen people say that Sachin's average is less against Wasim and Waqar. But from what I have seen, he hardly struggled against them. In fact they have been able to take his wicket only once each. In those matches, Sachin got out to Musthaq, Saqlain and other spinners. Yet your average will show Sachin struggled against pace and was Wasim and Waqar's bunny This average against bowler is one of the stupidest and most retarded stat ever pulled by anyone IMO. Even if a player played 3 matches and got run our for zero all three times, the credit will go to the bowler against whom he played. just because a batsman averages low against one bowler, doesnt mean that the average was caused by that bowler. He could have hit the bowler for fours and sixes and got out next over to some other bowler. Remember, there are 3-4 other bowlers in a match and other ways of getting out too

I'm not saying that McGrath's presence caused Sachin to get a low score but the fact is that unless McGrath was playing, the Australian attack was not at it's best because he was their best bowler.
