I'm slightly confused about the rules. 3 teams ended up on same points Pak with NRR of 0.44 Ind with NRR of 0.37 Ban with NRR of 0.02 In that group, each team won against one team and lost against the other. In that case, shouldn't NRR be the sole criteria and not head to head result for teams to qualify ? (India is 2nd in NRR) Assuming that the top team with the best NRR qualifies for the final first, and then it's one of the other teams (based on head to head result) which goes through .... then, didn't india have a chance to better the Pak NRR by defeating them in a few less overs, and hence be in the top position wrt NRR ?? After the above scenario, even if Ban had a big victory over SL topping the NRR, between Pak and Ind, Ind would have gone through because of head to head result or even NRR. To make long story short,, i think while India was playing Pakistan, they had a chance to go through to the final irrespective of Ban-SL result. All they had to do was win their game against Pak in a few less overs (probably around 2 overs). It's staggering that nobody has mentioned about this,, not the team management, not the commentators and from what i've seen not even us cricket followers. Somebody please correct me if i've got it all wrong !!

Only two teams ended up with same points - Bangladesh and India http://www.espncricinfo.com/asia-cup-2012/engine/series/524504.html?view=pointstable If India would've wanted to go through irrespective of Bangladesh- Sri Lanka result, we needed to win against Pakistan with a bonus point (chase 330 inside 40 overs).

OK ... now i see where i got it all wrong !! Pak won against SL with a bonus point ... useless feckers .... Lankans, not the paksters. Fair enough,, i guess Bang and Pak deserve to be in the final .. Hope Bangladesh wins it,, it'd be terrific to watch their joy and celebrations.

Because our run rate is higher. We beat Pakis (head to head)... So India should be in finals Since point is same, Bangs should play in the final because of its their home turf. Chuck the head to head rule and put the home team/wildcard rule. This will attract more crowd too... Pakis are there purely because of some stupid rule...

We just chased 321 in 36.5 overs...
Had a funny feeling after we won on Sunday that maybe we should have won with a bonus point. It has come to haunt us. :((

Question was valid.. Why couldnt have we won in 40 overs? We very well knew that bonus point was needed? There were no unknowns in the chase.. Ball was coming on bat. Rohit Sharma and Virat together could have paced the inning accordingly. ??????

umm.. against htis bowling attack.. it was difficult more over it wasnt needed in cb series w/o bonus point we had no chance..so it was do or die.. so even if we lost there would ve been no difference ..remember we pulled it off once doesn ot mean we will do it again we could ve ended up throwing wickets away and in the end would ve lost even after 50 overs :cantstop:
