vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I am racking my brain why he is not able to do this. Sangakkara did that for Gauti and totally messed up his mind in Srilanka. It is not like Irfan, Praveen are bowling 100 mph thunderbolts. It increases your chances of taking wickets. Batsmen won't stand outside the crease to kill the swing. Batsmen won't waltz down the wicket freely. It makes the bowler bowl at the stumps. I have seen KKD do this for seamers. But Dhoni is either reluctant or not giving a thought about it.
Sid Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 u'll see him standing closer to stumps in IPL For which bowler ?
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Dhoni's keeping was at its worst in England. But he pulled up his socks later. Also he has this another problem of not standing behind the stumps to collect the ball. He kind of stand in between throw and the stumps which is totally wrong.
Old guy Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 maybe for pk...it would be gr8 idea but not many keepers would like to stand up with new ball its psychological thing i guess :hmmm:
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7dKSCghNio]Wicket-keeping tips for Dhoni - YouTube[/ame] Though not talking about standing upto stumps. Farook is giving some tips to him during English tour.

Sid Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Even his stumping technique is not copy book but he is the fastest I have seen as far as stumpings are concerned. As far as OP is concerned,I think his finger injuries are making him reluctant to keep upto the stumps, because year or 2 ago he was keeping up to both Pathan(when he last played) and PK.
skindia Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 If he stands upto stumps bowlers will bowl more slower..
vvvslaxman Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 If he stands upto stumps bowlers will bowl more slower.. I doubt they could go any slower.. :cantstop: Ofcourse who can forget that 98kph slower one from Vinnie kumar

The reason is he doesn't give any follow through. His stands take the bowl like a wall and try to stump batsmen out. The flip side though is thin edges may not be easy to catch. Dhoni's made a trade off for those split second stumpings over catches. Fair enough, but would love to know the reason for the trade off. Surely, there has to be something. VVS, Unless our bowlers are given the charge I don't think Dhoni will move up to the stumps. Would like to know why would it help though? (apart from preventing the batsman from charging down the track)

rkt.india Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Our medium pacers like PK and Pathan cannot bowl straight even when he is standing behind. They bowl four wides both sides.

That has happened only a few times and that has happened only when he thinks that standing behind might give the batsman a second extra to reach the crease and also he does that only when the throw is not hitting the stumps.

It will force them ..if you stand up... frankly i think it helps the bowlers more than it hurts especially on patta wickets .
CG Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I guess its to avoid injury and being cool[Lazy] Attitude.
