Time running out for Strauss

For a long time, the success of England covered up the consistently bad form of English skipper Strauss. But with the tours of the SC once again exposing the mighty poms, looks like the gloves are off and suddenly there are murmurs of a possible change in guard forcing Strauss to quit etc. Strauss's batting has been in decline as suggested by an avg of 35 across 33 tests with just 2 100s. http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/20387.html?class=1;spanmax2=29+Mar+2012;spanmin2=29+Mar+2009;spanval2=span;template=results;type=batting Now with England on the verge of losing their number 1 post, its difficult to see how long they can go with Strauss. The only thing that may see him retain his captaincy and the spot in the side is the indifferent form of his deputy Cook. Also wondering, if the indifferent form of the skipper with the team floundering will lead to any dressing room squabbles like we saw in the case of our own team with MSD-Sehwag-GG having a go at each other publicly.

1 hundred since Lord's 2009 where M Johnson was thinking more about his mother than where to bowl. 48 innings in that span. He was under pressure in 2007 and made that famous 177, so I wouldn't write him off.

Strauss didn't even do well vs our mediocre bowling attack last summer. More or less confirmed he was past his prime. Even if he is able to revive his career from here on, won't be long before he calls it quits.

They can't drop him... It's the 'TINA' factor.. They don't have any decent replacement as an opener..And they were criticising Indians for not having proper replacements of the BIG 4.. :phehehe:

Its almost impossible to either break into or get dropped from this Eng team. It’s like a closed shop. The same players who continuously fail are always picked and get to play. Sounds very familiar…

^ Agree.. They've made a living on the policy of 'backing their players' till the end.. It had given them some good results.. However they're going to be in a much deeper shyte than they claimed about Team India having no proper replacements.. Just wait and see..

That's the case with teams that have been successful. Justin Langer once said that it was harder to get into the Australian than it was to get dropped from it. No comparison with that Aussie team but just saying....

Not convinced with his batting. Watched much of him?
Yeh obviously sky dont show much first class stuff which is by far his game, but they showed the warks hampshire game at the end of last season and Carberry hit a very solid ton. In limited overs he isnt great but he should be good for tests I reckon. Not really many other openers around.

There are so many similarities b/w Strauss and Dhoni's overall captaincy stint. Both are highly defensive captains who have not performed well with the bat. Also, tiheir poor forms have been over shadowed with the teams' winning. But now Strauss finds himself in the same boat as that of MSD. But the only difference is that everyone knows Strauss can score but MSD can't
