It was Ganguly, Manjrekar and rest who were harping India was going to white wash England when it was never going to be easy. England have been playing regularly in SC, so they are getting used to the conditions. They even won a test in Sri Lanka which is very difficult. Things are going to get worse as far as Indian test cricket is concerned when Sachin and Zaheer are going to retire. But this has to happen and hopefully the rebuilding process will begin.

Has too much cricket on flat batting pitches made team weak ? Let's face it. Indian team plays most of their cricket on flat, batting pitches in ODIs and IPL. Even the pitches in Ranji trophy have been made so flat that there arent any quality spinners or pacers coming through and yet there are plenty of batsmen with an average of 50+. I feel this is a major reason for complacency creeping in batsmen technique and whenever there is a little help for bowlers, they are found out. I actually think the Eden Gardens' track is not quite the kind of batting pitch you get in ODIs and T20s. Its still a flat pitch where there is no help for bowlers but also a slow one where batsmen have to grind for runs which our batsmen dont seem to have the patience for. So they got out after starts. I dont think Gambhir, Sehwag, Yuvraj or Dhoni are out of form. They have technical flaws which are exposed when they are not playing on flat batting pitches. The way forward is to make sporting wickets in domestic cricket and ODIs so batsmen can learn and correct their flaws and become better.
