Yoda-esque Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 I would agree.I dont care how bad your bowling is because, when you put 600+ runs on the board, the pressure will show sooner or later. We used to win because scores of 450+ were pretty common for us.

We used to win because scores of 450+ were pretty common for us. But we have also been losing wickets to some very good bowling. Anderson was superb on day 1. We don't see such spells from any of our bowlers as well. Not that I am blaming the bowlers but I feel the blame has to be shared.

It wasn't anything out of the ordinary, yeah a bit of reverse swing at 135 kmph. You are making it sound as if Marshall or Akram were operating at their best. Both Tendulkar and Kohli fell to rubbish shots and dumb cricket. Cook weathered a couple of really good spells from Zaheer in the previous test - I haven't the watched Indian bowling in this test.

We don't see such spells from any of our bowlers as well. Not that I am blaming the bowlers but I feel the blame has to be shared. I agree, but your batsmen have had a sustained period of not getting over 350 on such pitches. Bowling teams like ours are going to have good days. But even on bad days we have rolled you as have the Aussies. Tendulkar is one of the problems IMHO He plays for himself and his records, instead of doing what Dravid did Even now we are blooding new talent all the time in our team. And we now have a batting coach full time teaching our future stars batting conditions abroad. Thorpe runs camps in Indian conditions for months at a time. Indian cricket appears to be relying on their past glories and not looking forward
daryl1985 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The current test situation for India is the batsmens fault. To put pressure on any side you need runs on the board. You won the last two tosses, but your batsmen let the advantage slip. Also your fielding leaks runs (mainly the batsmen) Sharma bowled his heart out today and Khan is doing his best in his twilight years. Your spinners are young with a lot to learn. The fault lies with your batting princes, their poor concentration and techniques imho Insightful.
the don Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 i disagree , i think the bowlers are as much to blame as the batters if not more , 300 odd is not a bad score by any means and a lot of teams would fancy their chances , most certainly so against this english batting lineup against spin which is overly dependant on cook.

Not denying that, but ask yourself whether Panesar deserved 15-16 wickets in the 3 innings hes played.
Nova Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Not denying that' date=' but ask yourself whether Panesar deserved 15-16 wickets in the 3 innings hes played.[/quote'] Yes he did. He found the correct speed and length to bowl, and he did that consistently.
Yoda-esque Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Yes he did. He found the correct speed and length to bowl' date=' and he did that consistently.[/quote'] C'mon,Nicky Boje or Ashley Giles keep doing that day in and day out.But I don't see them getting a bagful of wickets. 15-16 wickets is the stuff of legends :something like Shane Warne playing against the English at the SCG . Even Warne bowling in the rough in Chennai and on that India tour didn't get so many wickets. We saw how Panesar lost his line when MSD tonked him for 2 sixers. No,Our batsmen refused to use their feet and allowed Panesar to settle down. They were too careful.
Square Drive Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Damn we are not in a good positions to laugh at them
Yoda-esque Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 :cantstop: So SL's are not considered desis....when did this happen. Hes referring to the padosis :secret:
Nova Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 What are other bowlers got to do with it? Panesar bowled correctly on Indian pitches, where even our spinners were not able to. Our batsmen did not read his length properly, and at times were not able to judge whether to play forward or on the back foot. Why is it hard to give him some credit?
Eternal Atma Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 We have been batting poorly for a while. Openers give us a poor start as a unit there has been a collective failure. We seem to not even be able to do simple things like put up a fight to bat out a day with 10 wickets in hand. This happened in Eng and maybe Aus, we collapsed so easily. I am following this game very closely. If we can't put up a fight on this pitch in the last 2 days then that will be a new low. Our bowlers always sucked post kumble. But they were masked by a strong batting lineup and ZK in the form of his life for a few years.

You have to score big in first innings as batting will be so good on day 2,3,4.

Why is it hard to give him some credit?[/quote'] We gifted him most wickets. He bowled well but not enough to take wickets. Back in the day many spinners have bowled better and still not had these kind of results in India to show for it. It doesn't take much for us to roll over. I guarantee if Ashwin was bowling now for England he would have got a few more wickets too. We have forgotten the meaning of long innings and not throwing our wicket away. Need proper test batsmen to replace GG and UV as minimum. Viru is irreplacable in home conditions due to the way he plays and the impact it can have.

Agreed Kohli's was a stupid shot and so were others but fact remains that what happened before the dismissal would tell you that it was a very good spell. It was not as straight forward as you are making it to sound though. Cook might have weathered, but again, Zaheer has been a bit up and down this series.
vamos_rafa Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Not denying that' date=' but ask yourself whether Panesar deserved 15-16 wickets in the 3 innings hes played.[/quote'] In Mumbai, most certainly yes. His style of bowling totally suited the track in Mumbai.

But our batsmen neither used their feet to him nor tried sweeping him or tried to upset his line and length. They just plodded forward and tried to smother the spin.No intent at all.In short, they played like the English batsmen. The last time our batsmen struggled this way against a finger spinner was '99 against Saqlain and he was the world's best bowler then with the doosra that nobody had seen before. And he bowled on minefields. Now along comes Monty, a chequered career at best and suddenly he turns into Warne? Kudos to Panesar but our batsmen failed. I can't think of Sidhu or Azhar or even Tendlya of the old allowing a bowler of Monty's caliber to dominate them this way.
