Eng are defending champs, no 1 in all formats till recently what do you expect ? Ind is a minnow in t20 now..get real. Appretiate the good work, if india beat one of the better teams we should still be happy. For instance balaji 120k bowler, pathan 125k bowler, zak 130k bowler, all of them slower than luke wright the slowest one form England. we have no pace bowler who can check the top teams, only spinners can do it so i expect India to compete against Eng or western teams but fail against sub continent teams except lankans ( we own them :--D.... :antijinx::antijinx:) when we bowl, and fail always when we bat because all the guns seem to be to out of form (except Kohli) in this tournament.

I dont think yorkers are the solution they just end up bowling full tosses might be wise to tell them to bowl a short ball and a slower ball in the over rather than simply striving for a yorker.

I definitely agree with you in terms of having some variety (another thing that's lacking), but these guys HAVE to practice yorkers as well. It's crucial in the death overs. They should definitely be using the short bowl quota per over as well, and prepare the right field to go with it.

i feel its too late now for them to get it right. Certain things you cant simply pick up in a few training sessions. After looking at them bowling v Pakistan and the amount of full tosses they bowled its come to a point where you have to draw a line on bowling yorkers. Indian bowlers in general need to find a right balance between variety and being predictable. v Pakistan Balaji was way to predictable. Kamran Akmaal simply knew he was going to get a slow ball pitched full way outside off and waited for it accordingly. While Zaheer and Pathan kept trying to go for yorkers and meted out juicy full tosses. Its not just me saying this many commentators have said it. (i did hear Nassar Hussein and Wasim Akram) say the same thing. Atleast against Afghanistan Balaji mixed it up enough. In the last over he bowled slower balls a short one and a normal one which zipped through and was rewarded with wickets. Zaheer on the other hand simply tried to go for yorkers and ended up with half volleys. Yorkers are fine for somebody like Malinga. Though even yorkers if they become predictable can be countered.

That was embarassing. At one point he was already well away from the stumps before Balaji even released the ball. I agree they shouldn't keep trying to bowl them if they can't get their length right, maybe one attempt early in the over and more if it works out. But it's quite pathetic that they can't bowl yorkers. Even beyond yorkers, there just doesn't appear to be any strategy. Dhoni has been accused many times of simply 'waiting for something to happen' when India defend totals. There has to be some sort of a game plan, some kind of a field for specific batsmen/bowlers etc.. At one point I think Ashwin is going to have to reserve 2 overs for the 18th and 20th, which is a pity because he can make important inroads in earlier overs.
